Alfredo Flores Obituary

Alfredo Carreon Flores, 82 of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Flagstaff, AZ passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2005 in Phoenix, AZ. Alfredo was born in Columbus, NM to Jose & Lucia Flores. He was the 3rd of 5 children. Alfredo was raised in Deming, NM until he came to Flagstaff with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1941. It was here that he met and married Lupe O'campo, his wife of 62 years. They made their home in Flagstaff where they raised 5 daughters. Alfredo served his country as a grade 3 Sergeant, machine gun squad leader with the 158th Infantry, U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #3. He was a lumber grader at Southwest Forest Industries and was a volunteer fireman in Flagstaff for many years. He was a Field Representative for the Az. State Veteran's Training Service until his retirement in 1982. He took much pride in traveling the State, locating employers to assist veterans by providing training and employment. He relocated to Phoenix in 1974 where he retired. Alfredo was a loving husband and father. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He loved music, dancing and enjoyed sports. You could often find him watching one game on TV while wearing his headphones listening to another. Most of all, he loved spending time with family. He was forever the caretaker, our steadfast guardian, wanting to help wherever he could. If a family member was in the market to buy something, he was self-appointed to find the "best deal" for anything from haircuts to houses. Although we will miss the ever-ready advice and hugs, we know he will continue to watch over us as he always has. You can rest now dear husband, father, and grandfather. You have taught us well and we will be all right. We will be together again. Survivors include: Wife: Lupe O'campo Flores, Daughters – Pricilla (Fred) Reade of Albuquerque, NM, Lucille (Epifanio) Arviso of Phoenix, AZ, Sylvia Jean (Reyes) Aguila of Palmdale, CA, Gloria Flores (Michael Varvel) of Glendale, AZ, Cynthia (Mario) Contreras of Phoenix, AZ, Son – Gilbert (Dolores) Duran of Hurley, NM, 18 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Granddaughter, 1 Sister – Azucena Lucero of Albuquerque, NM and many nieces and nephews. Alfredo was preceded in death by his parents, Jose & Lucia Flores, sisters, Jennie Badley, Lupe Sullins, brother Jose "Pepe" Flores, daughter, Olivia Flores Chavez, 1 granddaughter and 2 great grandsons. Family Viewing and Rosary will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, AZ at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday 6/9/05. Visitors welcome at the family home following the service.
