Bobbie Gavit Obituary

Gavit, Bobbie (Roberta)
September 22, 1935 to March 20, 2015. Bobbie (Roberta) Gavit died of lung cancer on April 1, 2015 peacefully in her sleep at home in Carlsbad, CA were she had recently moved to be near her two sons, daughter in-law and five grandchildren. She was the only child of Ann and George Dolby of Huntington, Indiana and she was the fourth generation. Once diagnosed with an aggressive form of lung cancer in January 2015, Bobbie never gave up hope. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future - even though she went through countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, hospitalizations and pain. She was filled with compassion towards her family and dear friends. Bobbie received her degree from the University of Indiana with a degree in Geography. She moved to Tempe, AZ to raise her two sons were she continued her education and received her Master's Degree in Counseling Arizona State University. She worked for Motorola in Phoenix for more than 15 years and traveled to Europe and Asia. She is survived by her son Frank, his wife Lauren, grandchildren Kai, his wife Shanna and Dane, her son George and grandchildren; Jacob, Mark, and Harle along with many devoted friends and family members. Bobbie loved traveling, reading, playing "word with friends" all night long on her I-Pad, enjoyed movies, listening to books on tape, loved watching Downtown Abbey, spending time with her wonderful friends and family. It was not easy to win playing "word for friends" with Bobbie; she was hard to bet. She was a devoted, generous, and loving mother. Bobbie was known as Grandmavan to her five grandchildren who she was very proud of and loved tremendously. Bobbie loved to travel in her "Suzie" van. Her family cannot express their appreciation and love to two wonderful friends, Darlene Neff and Sherry Watts who cared for Bobbie when diagnosed with cancer in January 2015 until she moved to California on March 20. Bobbie truly had devoted and loving friends and she was always so grateful for them. Bobbie can be remembered with donations to the American Lung Cancer Foundation. Bobbie's life will be celebrated in a small service at Sunset Cliffs in California were she first took her sons to surf. Her sons Frank and George will do a "paddle out" with their Mothers ashes.
