Charles Stark Obituary

Charles D. Stark

Charles D. Stark passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021, at the age of 70 years old. Charlie was comforted at his bedside by his son Brian of Pleasanton, CA and his sister Susan and brother-in-law Tom Kernen, of Scottsdale, AZ.

Charlie moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 2009, after spending his teenage years and most of his adult life in Cedar Rapids and Davenport, IA. He was born in Chula Vista, CA and because his father was a career Navy seaman, he also lived in Guam, Kansas, and Hawaii. Charlie graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1968.

Charlie had several career interests including owning a golf shop and a pest control business. He also coached Little League baseball and was always active in Brian's extracurricular events. He enjoyed baseball and football and the Yankees, Chargers, and Jets were his favorite teams. Charlie was a college sports fan, and he was often seen wearing his favorite Stanford hat and t-shirt.

Charlie was well-liked by many friends, and he is fondly remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help others. Charlie shared many interesting stories and constantly amazed his family with his knowledge of current events and many other topics. Charlie loved surprises as evidenced by an unannounced trip to Arizona to see his parents and sister at Thanksgiving one year, showing up at the front door just in time for dinner after flying from Iowa. The epic road trip one summer with Brian to see the Baseball and Football Halls of Fame and go on too many rollercoasters at Kings Island will also never be forgotten.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and June A. Stark, and his brother Christopher W. Stark, Sr. In addition to his son, Brian, and sister, Susan, he is survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Sydney and Brady Stark.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. For more information, please see www.messingermortuary.com. Donations may be made in Charlie's honor to the American Diabetes Association or the ASPCA.

Charlie was a good friend and always enjoyed when he would come back to Cedar Rapids and stay with Bob. He came back for Bob's celebration of life and my sister and I took him around to old Cedar Rapids eating spots. Attached photo was at Leonardo's summer 2019.
