Dan Heil Obituary

Dan Walter Heil, 73, passed away on May 15, 2006 after a short battle with leukemia at the City of Hope Medical Center. He was a La Habra Heights resident of 60 years. Dan graduated from Fullerton High in 1950 and then attended Stanford University on an NROTC scholarship. Graduating in 1955 with an engineering degree, he then served two years in the Army. Dan's engineering abilities, along with his honesty and integrity, enabled him to start his own engineering firm, Willdan Associates. The company is now known as The Willdan Group of Companies, where he was the President and Chief Executive Officer. Dan spent time with his four children in Boy Scouts, fishing, hiking, boating and water skiing. He enjoyed bowling, horticulture, stamp collecting, and he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim for 42 years, where he also was a former president. Dan is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Linda. He also is survived by sons Ron Heil of Portland, Oregon, Gary Heil of Portola, California, and Doug Heil of La Habra, California, and daughter Sandi Burnes of Chico, California. Dan's grandchildren are Kevin, Jason and Samantha Burnes; and Madeline, Kenny, Kelsy and Anthony Heil. Brother David Heil and sister Mary Jo Driver also survive him. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christina Heil. Dan was a generous and compassionate man, a loving husband and father and was much loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's name can be made to the City of Hope Medical Center, Duarte, CA or the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim College Scholarship Foundation c/o June Glenn, 5239 E. Linda, I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I had not had contact with Danfor over 40 years, but I admired him greatly. I worked for him just as he left the City of Fullerton.

As part of the Willdan family for eleven years, I grew to admire and respect Dan. I believe he truly thought of his employees as family.

He will be missed by friends, family and the engineering community.

A most admired man, lived life to the fullest, was a great example on how to live life. Always supportive of all the programs of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, I and our club will miss him very much.
