Daniel Christopher Boring

Daniel Boring Obituary

Daniel Christopher Boring, 24, died at his home April 30, 2005 after a five year courageous fight against cancer. Born October 8, 1980 in Scottsdale, Dan attended Shadow Mountain and Horizon High Schools, and graduated from Chaparral High School. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1999 and was attending recruit training at San Diego when his cancer was discovered. He was eventually medically retired from the Marine Corps with rank of Private First Class. Dan continued to fight his cancer and lost his right leg, below the knee in 2002. An athlete all his life, Dan was an avid sports fan and a terrific basketball player. He continued to play basketball recreationally while wearing his prosthesis and delighted in winning one-on-one games with his friends. The cancer returned in 2003, this time settling in his left shoulder. Surgery removed the cancer but also took Dan's humerus, scapula and part of his collarbone. A prosthetic shoulder was created but his basketball playing days were finished. Shortly after that surgery, cancer was discovered in his chest and ribcage and he received radiation and treatment for that. Soon, another tumor appeared in his head and yet another in his right shoulder blade. Dan never complained about his problems and when diagnosed as being in a termianl stage he was determined to fight on. He proposed to his sweetheart, Tiffany Soldevere, during a cruise to Hawaii in February of this year. Upon returning from the cruise on March 5, Dan was too weak to continue and he was confined to his bed. He still refused to give in and fought without complaint until the cancer finally won the fight. He died peacefully and comfortably in his bed, surrounded by his family and a few very close friends. Dan is survived by his daughter Taylor Houser-Boring (5), his fiance Tiffany Soldevere, parents John and Suzi Boring, brother Michael (Mari Pakay) Boring, sister Vicky (Brad) Stevenson, nephew Paul Boring and Niece Sarah Boring. Also by his uncle and aunt, Max and Colleen VanOrman and his grandmother, Dolly Hill. Burial will be a private family affair in Paradise Memorial Gardens with a Memorial in his name scheduled for 3 P.M. Wednesday, May 4, at Cross in the Desert, United Methodist Church at Sweetwater and 32nd St. in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Dan's name to Hospice of the Valley. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Shadow Mountain Mortuary.

Dan, You were the best friend anyone could have. I am lucky to have been your wingman for 6 years. You taught me so much about living. I see you every time I look at your daughter and I will do everything I can to take care of her. Have a beer waiting when I get there!

My fondest memory of Dan is when he first came to Chaparral. I was one of the 1st kids he met and I remember showing him around a little. Tall, good looking kid. All the ladies wanted to hang with him. He and his buddy Ryan would come over and I would play them my Hip Hop beats and they would freestyle. Dan really enjoyed Hip Hop and I remember he really liked Redman. I'm sad to see such a young guy leave us! My prayers go out to this man and his family. I'll be attending the funeral tomorrow. Say hello to my Dad in Heaven for me!

I met Dan when I was in 8th grade and he was in 7th at Shea Middle School. He was so funny and just such a great guy. I remember him standing out because he always wore those Michigan basketball shorts. I have fond memories of Dan throughout middle school and high school, and though we lost touch when he left Shadow Mountain thinking of him always makes me smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My heart goes out to Dan's family and friends. Dan and I were friends when he attended Shadow Mountain High School, although we lost touch we shared some great memories together. I will never forget the time John, Suzi and Dan invited me to go with them on a trip to Lake Powell. It was an unbelievable experience, and one I will cherish forever. Thanks for the memories Dan!

I am a neighbor on Lupine Ave, where I had the pleasure of meeting Dan & his daughter. When I brought them chocolate chip cookies, Dan was friendly & gracious despite the pain he must have been in. What a kind & brave young man you brought into this world.

My heart is with you, Suzi and John as you go through this week. I know you know that Dan is at peace and not in pain but letting go of a child is not an easy task. May the Lord continue to give you strength in the days ahead. May your memories of Dan help to heal your hurting hearts and Taylor bring a smile to you at this time. Love and Blessings Jim and Nancy
