Glendale - On December 21, 2020, Daniel Valdivia, Jr. ("Danny") lost his battle with COVID-19. To say the world is a lesser place would be a tragic understatement. He was one of the best - an extraordinary father, brother, tata, uncle, boss, and friend. He was selfless to a fault, placing others' needs above his own, often to his detriment.

Danny was a man of faith who did not want for material things. Instead, he enjoyed problem solving and fixing things. He could spend hours repairing any item. Always resistant to call a repairman, he traveled with a van full of tools should the opportunity present itself.

Danny loved to talk and could spend hours engaging family, friends, or even unsuspecting strangers at the counter of Los Compadres Restaurant, the family business he owned and managed. Topics ran the gamut, from philosophy to science fiction.

But, as much as he loved to talk, he enjoyed listening even more. Danny did not feign interest in the lives of others. He relished the opportunity to learn more, displaying a seemingly unquenchable thirst for information and knowledge.

Danny had a wicked sense of humor and, while his filter was somewhat porous, there was never a question as to his good intentions. He could light up a room with a story and although he may have told it many times before, spoke with a joyous smile as if it were the first.

Danny loved his family above all else. It was what made him whole. He cherished spending time with those closest to him and never missed an opportunity to share in those special life moments. Danny leaves grieving his two daughters, Dawn and Michal, his long-time partner Jan Schrutt, her children Tyler Schrutt and Tara Ladd, his brothers David and Richard, his sister Lucille, five beloved grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Danny is preceded in death by his father and mother, Daniel and Lucia Valdivia and his brother Michael. In accordance with Danny's wishes, there will be no public memorial service.
