David Clymer Obituary

Clymer, David C.
passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 of a stroke. He was born March 22, 1925 in Denver, CO to Carleton and Catherine Clymer. He is survived by his 4 children: Paul, Bruce, Ann and Mark as well as 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen, in 2006. He grew up in Denver, Pittsburg and Casper, WY. In 1942 he entered the US Military Academy at West Point where he graduated in 1945 and was married to Kathleen Crow shortly after graduation. They began their military service in post-war Germany, followed by assignments in Virginia, New York, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas, Hawaii, California and back to Virginia. David served 4 combat tours in Korea and Viet Nam. By the time he retired in 1968 they had set up housekeeping in 33 homes. His children were born in 4 different states. David loved music and spent 80 years singing in church choirs. Kathleen sang at his side for over 60 years. He saw to his children's musical education in having them learn at least one instrument besides piano-cornet, flute, clarinet, sax and organ. David became a deputy with the Phoenix City engineer's office in 1973 where he served until retiring in 1983. He was devoted to All Saints Episcopal Church, serving 3 times as Senior Wardon. He and Kathleen enjoyed 5 European concert tours in their 30 year tenure. He was an active member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers and was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona. He was an ardent and active supporter of the Phoenix Symphony, Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Opera and the Heard Museum. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to All Saints Music Program in his name. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church (6300 N. Central Ave., Phoenix) at 2 pm., Saturday February 27, 2010.

Deepest condolences to the Clymer family. David was such a fine person. I am forever indebted to him for assistance in running the Phoenix engineering department.
And in his later years, his sense of humor related to his doctor and medical visits. His trials and tribulations.............
