David Douglass Obituary

Douglass, David Ralph
age 93, died peacefully in his home in Grapevine, Texas on February 13, 2011. He is survived by his son David, daughters Cathy and Debby, grandsons Daryl, Darin and Brian and great-grandsons Daycen, Dobson, Devin and Stephan. David grew up one of ten children in Fairmont, West Virginia. In his early twenties he traveled across country to accept a job in San Diego in the aerospace industry. That began a long and fulfilling engineering career that took him to Southern California, Chicago and eventually Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for Garrett Corporation. He took much satisfaction from his work including that on the Atlas booster and the Apollo spacecraft. David was twice widowed. David's first wife Jane gave him a son before her death at a young age. David later married Patty, a woman also from Fairmont, and they settled in Phoenix where in 2006 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. His life was filled with many family activities, church related volunteer work, travel, woodworking, candy making and mastering any project that came his way. He was proud of his rank as a thirty-second degree Mason. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His strong, generous, loving and courageous spirit will be missed. A memorial service honoring David's life will be held at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N 7th St. at 2:00 p.m. on April 2, 2011. To send online condolences, please visit www.hansenmortuary.com.
