David Moffet Obituary

David R. (Robb) Moffet, 79, of Monmouth, Illinois and formerly of Peoria, Arizona, passed away June 9, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was born December 25, 1925 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Victor Logan, and Helen Sipfle Moffet. David was reared and educated in Monmouth, IL where he attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. He then attended and received a BA from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army, Tec 4 during WWII serving in England. David returned from service in 1943 and began working for his father in advertising for the Review Atlas Newspaper in Monmouth, Illinois.
He was married to Laura Benner. He
later married Darlene G. Sage Nelson July 3, 1976 in Monmouth, Illinois. He made his career in advertising, working for the RA until 1978. While in Monmouth David served on the Board and was one of the Presidents of Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL. He also was a member of, and Elder in the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth; and later was the same in First Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Arizona. In Monmouth, he served on the board of the Warren County YMCA, he enjoyed Wednesday Noon volleyball. He moved to Arizona in 1979. While in Arizona, David was employed by Variable Annunity Life Insurance managing retirement accounts for the school system in Peoria, Arizona until he retired in 2001. David hobbies included golf, working in his yard, and traveling. He also was an avid reader. Surviving family: his wife Darlene Moffet of Monmouth, IL; three sons John & Julie Moffet of Edgartown, Massachusetts, Stephen & Susan Moffet of Wheaton, Illinois, and Howard Moffet of Oakland, California; step-daughter Karen & Robert Erickson of Burlington, Iowa; step-sons Richard & Sherri Nelson of Glendale, AZ, Michael Nelson, and Brian & Tammy Nelson, both of Monmouth, IL; three grandchildren Tristan & Shane Moffet of Wheaton, IL, and Caroline Moffet of Edgartown, Mass; thirteen step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother Dr. Hugh L. Moffet of Henderson, Nevada. Preceded in death by his parents, one son Peter, one brother James. A Funeral Service will be at 10:30am Monday, June 13, 2005 at Faith United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth, IL. with Reverend William C. Myers officiating. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday after Noon at Turnbull Funeral Home where his family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Memorial is being established for either Faith United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth, or First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, Arizona.
