Dorothy Turner Rusing passed away peacefully on September 25, 2014, at her home surrounded by her children and family. Dorothy was born 97 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the fourth child of Lucille E. Dopita and Clyde J. Turner. She married Edward Joseph Rusing in 1936. They had four children: Sharon Roman (married to Roger Roman), Stephen Rusing, Rick Rusing and Wendy Rusing Nelson. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and dearly loved niece, Gail Turner and nephew Phil Turner. Dorothy and Ed lived in Des Moines, Iowa until 1947 when they moved to work with Arctic Contractors in Alaska. They settled in Fairbanks, Alaska creating an exciting and adventurous life. Dorothy and Ed opened the first supermarket in Alaska, and went on to be leaders in their community. Occasionally in the limelight but far more often a motivating force in the background. Dorothy became noted for her elegant and gracious entertaining for civic leaders, dignitaries and friends. Relocating to AZ in 1961, living in both Scottsdale and Tucson. Ed predeceased her by 25 years. Dorothy stayed active in the women's club, was an avid reader and a terrific bridge player. She traveled worldwide with girlfriends and thoroughly enjoyed life. She was a thoughtful, witty, charming and gracious lady who enriched the lives of her friends and family…always reminding us that she was "The Boss". Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Paradise Valley, with burial to follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Alcoholism & Addiction Assistance Association, 4210 N. Longview Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
