Robins, Eldon LeRoy
Eldon LeRoy Robins, MD, Aug 21, 1922 - Nov 9, 2010. Born to Edwin and Grace Robins in Gaston Oregon, Eldon grew up in and around the Willamette Valley outside of Portland, Oregon. With the Depression, he joined the CCC'S (Civilian Conservation Core) for a time, moving on for a short stint with Lockheed Aircraft in California. When war was declared, he joined the US Navy in 1941. July 16, 1944 while he was with the US Pacific Fleet Unit, he received both a commendation for his 53 missions in combat over Rabvul, in the South Pacific, and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as Aviation Machinist's Mate 2nd Class Nov 22, 1945. He married Myrtle A. Rogers while stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1945. After his discharge, they made their home in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated from Walla Walla College with a BA major in biblical language June 10, 1951. But dissatisfied, he decided to pursue medicine. In 1960 he graduated from medical school at the Universidad Autonomo, Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed a general internship at Washington Adventist Hospital in Tacoma Park, Maryland (1960), and a 2 yr. rotating general practice residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Spokane Washington. He went into general practice there. In July, 1966, Eldon and Myrtle moved the family to Arizona where he set up a practice in Glendale until 1990. He closed his practice at the age of 68 and worked with the Dept. of Health Services in Long-Term Care facilities until April of 2003. His professional accomplishments could not have come about without the steadying, nurturing support of his wife Myrtle, who worked tirelessly to help him in each of his endeavors. She preceded him in death May 26, 2009. Survivors include 6 children: Dr. Lanny Robins, Claudia Harrington, Bodie Robins, Roque Robins, Nancy Lutter, and Dr. Edwin Robins; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Viewing and reception will be held on Tues., November 30, 2010 from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
