Art Celaya was my high school Spanish teacher at Florence HS. He was a great teacher who cared whether we learned proper Spanish properly. I remember during the Cuban Missile crisis how the boys were asking if they should go enlist and forget about school. He wisely and calmly told them to stick with school, and they respected him because he had served in the armed forces. I followed his educational career as he rose professionally, and his legislative career. He was a role model for me and I often wished he knew of my successes, as I credited his influence in part. He was at my niece's graduation last year as an honored guest. What a great man! He has earned his eternal rest.

Celaya Family: I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a truly outstanding educator. Art was a friend and a mentor during the years that I was an Administrator in the Florence School District. He was such a positive influence on so many students. He was always willing to give his time to improve educational opportunities for the youth of Florence. He was instrumental in the development of the Vocational District (CAVIT) for Pinal County & served many years on the Governing Board. I cherish the memory of the times I spent in his company & will always remember him as a good friend.
