Gary Chenault Obituary

Chenault, Gary Charles
Gary passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 20, 2015 at the age of 59. Gary was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and raised in Phoenix by his parents Euell and Loretta Chenault, who preceded him to their eternal home. Gary was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he experienced the most joy in life spending time with his family and friends whom he loved so much. He was so excited and overjoyed to be "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren 5 year old Olivia and 2 year old Blake. They would all light up with excitement whenever they saw each other and it was such an overwhelming joy to witness. Gary had a lifelong passion for music and taught himself to play the guitar at a young age. Growing up he and his brother Terry enjoyed playing their guitars and singing together in church and at home with family and friends. He instilled his love of music in his sons Charlie and David, and together they loved composing songs, singing and "jamming" on their guitars and drums. Always the outdoorsman, he began hunting and fishing with his father and brother in his youth. He had an infectious sense of adventure and enriched the lives of those around him during many fishing/camping/off-roading trips with his best friend and brother in spirit Ray Hacker, countless relatives, and many good friends. He loved being on the water and bass fishing at Bartlett Lake with his sons was one of the things he enjoyed most. He also loved being out on the ocean, cruising to new places and relaxing while enjoying the ocean breeze with his wife Cheryl and their always entertaining cruising partners Sheila and Ray Hacker. Throughout Gary's career in manufacturing he was blessed with so many lasting friendships that still remain today. Gary was a loving, loyal, kindhearted, generous, compassionate, and strong man who was always willing to lend a hand to others. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cheryl, sons Charlie and David, daughter-in-law Katie, grandchildren Olivia and Blake, brother Terry (Betty), nieces, nephews, cousins, Hacker, Deane and Lasher families, and many good friends. He loved you all so deeply. His courage and faithfulness during his last journey in this life has been an inspiration to us all. Gary always said "God is in control" and he glorified his Savior throughout his journey. He will forever be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Gary loved the Lord with all his heart and had a deep desire for all to know the Lord. John 3:16 New International Version (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Services will be held on Thursday, August 27th at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix AZ 85027. Visitation at 10:30 followed by a memorial service at 11:30.

Gary and I have been friends since 4th grade; he has always been a great friend creating lots of memories. We have had a private, gentle competition with each other that started back then over who would be first. He usually won, he was first to get married, first to have children, first to buy a house, and I really didn't mind. I always thought Gary deserved to go first; he was prepared and looked forward to most everything life had for him. Now he has gone to heaven first and I am a bit jealous, although I know he has been getting ready for a while. I am thankful that he is healed, whole and perfect now, and thankful to have known such a great brother in Christ all these years. Gary's love for you Cheryl, Charlie, and David has always been a strong example for me. My prayers and condolences are with you and all Gary's family and friends.

My Uncle Gary was a one-of-a-kind, compassionate man who loved his family. Uncle Gary was the Uncle I knew the best and was closest to growing up. I loved the bond that he shared with my dad and our family. Their closeness forever impressed upon me a definition of sibling love and family. I will never forget hearing ongoing laughter pouring out of the room occupied by my Uncle Gary and my Dad, long into the night and after I was supposed to be asleep. Whenever we all were together, teasing and fun times abounded! I thought brothers and families were just naturally supposed to tease and joke with one another, all in love and good-nature, of course! I enjoyed hearing my Uncle Gary and Dad sing songs and play their guitars together. He was a gifted singer and musician. I was especially excited when my cousins and I could join in with them, playing on our instruments of specialty! I loved going to church with Uncle Gary, my Aunt Cheryl and my cousins and then usually to my grandma's house or out-to-lunch together. Our families had so many special moments together memories that I shall never forget and forever cherish.

Gary and I have been friends since 4th grade; he has always been a great friend creating lots of memories. We have had a private, gentle competition with each other that started back then over who would be first. He usually won, it started with him being born first (by seven months) then, he was first to get married, first to have children, first to buy a house, but I really didn't mind. I always thought Gary deserved to go first; he was prepared and looked forward to most everything life had for him. Now he has gone to heaven first and I am a bit jealous, although I know he has been getting ready for a while. I will always remember you as a kind man with a sweet smile and a gentle spirit. Knowing you are in the presence of everlasting joy brings a smile to my face, and knowing that the separation from those we love is not forever. May our Lord grant peace with His comforting presence to family and friends.
