George Hoffmann Obituary

Hoffmann, George Timothy "Tim"
February 12, 1951 – September 24, 2008. Tim was the second of five children born to Mrs. Janet and the late Dr. George Treymann Hoff-mann in Milwaukee, WI on Feb. 12, 1951. The family settled in Phoenix, AZ in 1958. Tim at tended Simis Elementary School and graduated from Central High School. During those years, he was an active Boy Scout and earned the Eagle Rank. He is an alumni of the University of Arizona. His love of the outdoor life took him to Estes Park, Colorado for several years. On to more challenges, he moved to Central, Alaska where he trained and worked as a bush pilot mechanic. He also served as mayor of the town. Tim returned to graduate school at the University of Southern California, and received a master's degree in Occupational Therapy. He found his niche as a Hand Therapist, first working at Salem Hospital, in Salem, Oregon, and then establishing his own Hand Therapy practice. He loved his rustic home on the Molalla River in Oregon. Tim moved back to Arizona to enjoy the warm weather, desert and old friends. His hobbies of metal crafting, exploring ghost towns, reading, cooking and community volunteer work occupied him. Tim will be remembered by his family and friends for his great stories, thoughtful conversation, and sense of humor. He became an avid studier of the Bible and loved the Lord, Jesus Christ. Tim had been ill for about 4 years and passed away on Sept. 24, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father, George T. Hoffmann and brother-in-law, Jerry Brassfield. He is survived by his mother, Janet Hoffmann of Oregon, brother, Doug Hoffmann (Cathy Lyons) of Florida, sisters Joan Brassfield of Oregon, Laurie Tudeen (Jeff) of Florida and Kathy Hoffmann-Grotting (John Grotting) of California and eleven nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed, but, his life and the laughter he brought to all of us will make us chuckle and give thanks to God for him. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 29 at 3pm at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary 710 W. Bethany
Home Road, Phoenix, AZ 602 249 2111. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Boy Scouts of America, Barrows Neurological Institute in Phoenix, or www.youthhaven.org in memory of Timothy.

Dear Hoffmann's

I was so very sorry to learn of Tim's death. The highlights from my childhood are full of great memories with the Hoffmann family. Just last week I was in Phoenix on business and I had the chance to go by the your old home. The neighborhood has changed, but the memories of grapefruit fights in the citrus grove, swimming, walking through the irrigated lawns and going to the soda fountain came flooding back. What I remember most about Tim is the teasing he dished out to Doug and myself. Later I remember his attainment of Eagle Scout. Still later I remember the stories of his years in Alaska as a bush pilot. I am sadden that I have not had the chance to see all of you for many years. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers as you adjust to this great loss. If any of your travels should bring you to southern CA, I would love to see you again.

Sincerely

Larry Bennett

I am so sorry to hear of GT's passing. I met GT when I visited my brother in Alaska. GT and my brother were roommates. GT took me for a ride in a bush plane. He touched my life and made a lasting impression on me. I am so sorry for your loss. He will always be watching over you. God bless.

To the Hoffmann Family
Wonderful Memories are things we remember all our lives. The early days of our relationship are vivid and bright even until this day. The children (cousins were so close in age and so much fun when our families were together. Whether is was visits to Wisconsin, Galvelston Texas, Phoenix Arizona or Long Beach California they were all wonderful times. As the children all grew up and have their own families we were seperated by miles and time. Grammy Hoffman was our focal point. When she passed away our lives were not the same. Kathy, Tim and Joan stayed with us when Papa
George was called back into service at San Diego for a short time. Joanie was just a baby of about a year and a half. Laurie and Doug came later. I send the Bennett Families' condolances to all of you and I know that God will comfort and supply all you needs.

I am very saddened to hear of Tim's passing. Our heart and prayers are with you all.

I met Tim in Fairbanks in 1976 and spent time laughing at each other.

I was fortunate to have Tim visit our home, visit the Oregon beaches with Tim and my wife, visit Tim in Phoenix and always have interesting challenging conversations.

I will miss Tim, but know I like everyone who knew GT will carry him with us in our hearts.

To the Hoffmann family...I went to O.T. school with Tim(we lived across the way from one another). I heard from a very dear friend of Tim's passing and was very sad to hear the news. You have my deepest sympathy. Tim's laughter and sparkling personality got me and my roommate( Michele Ruess) through school. We had dinners together that turned into disasters...but he always made us laugh about it and kept our spirits high. He will be missed and I wish you all well. Lots of love to you and your family...

It was with great sorrow when I heard of Tims passing. I got to know him in Fairbanks in 1975 while working with him. We shared a lot of laughs together and will miss hearing from him. I was able to keep in contact with him after he left Alaska. Our thoughts are with you during this time.

Aunt Janet, Kathy, Joan, Laurie Jo and Doug,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. When I think back through my life, each of you, Tim included, bring to mind all the fun and hilarious times the families had together. Swimming, putting on shows for each other, going to church, going to Bob's Big Boy Restaurant, even all the cousins staying at Grammy's house. All those memories are treasured by me. Tim will be missed. My love to all of you.

It was with a heavy heart that I learned from Kathy the news of Tim's passing today. It is just now striking midnight in Seattle and I have been thinking of Tim all day long. We met in 1981 and although we had not seen each other since the mid/late 80s we kept in touch. I am grateful for having so many fond college and Oregon memories of Tim, including visions of his great smile and twinkle in his eyes and his sense of humor and his deep abiding friendship. My love and support goes out to all of his family and friends as we grieve the passing of our beloved Tim.
