George Reis Obituary

Col. George Reis, Jr. USAF, Retired, 12/27/30 - 6/07/06. He was born in Fall River, Mass. to Portuguese immigrants George Reis, Sr., and Diolinda Costa-Reis. George married his beloved wife Joan Tobin-Reis in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948 as an Airman, retired 26 years later as a Colonel. George was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Joan, this past August. He is survived by his children Kevin, (Susie), Joan-Marie (Rick) Childress, George, III (Carlotta), 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his brother Richard. He was an incredible role model, father, guide, husband and friend. He was a man of integrity and responsibility, loyalty, love and laughter. His legacy will be the love he had for his family as evidenced by the outstanding adults they have become. The family is comforted by the belief that he is again with his "Tobey". A funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 13th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Hospice of Arizona, In-patient Unit, Pueblo Norte, 7100 E. Mescal St., Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Arrangements entrusted to Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 480-991-5800.

I knew George for about forty years. During that time he was always my sounding board and a great companion. He and Joan helped raise my family, his grandchildren. He was always there and I and my family will greatly miss his presence.
