My memories of Loring always bring a smile to my face.He had a joy of discovery he shared with everyone.I will always be thankful for his guidance and gentle prodding to encourage me to practice critical thinking. He listened. He was a teacher's teacher and a man who cared about his students. Thank you , Loring, for giving me courage to keep trying. Colleen

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. I had Mr. White for 10th grade English and, while I wasn't the best student I'm sure, I did learn from him and enjoyed his class. One thing I remember was his enjoyment of some of the antics in Mad Magizine. To my recollection, several times this was used to try and derail him from giving us an exam on that day. I have always remember him and can say I am glad to have known him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Loring White in Alaska. Loring and I went out in my old pick up truck, a Ford 1961 F100, with a 455 engine and straight exhaust. It was a beater and we called it my rolls burley. Due to the fact it burley rolled at times. We went out to a local drinking establishment called Chilkoot Charlie's. After a few drinks, we came out and the rolls would not start, so Loring had to help me push the beast to pop the clutch to get her started. It is a good old Alaskan way of starting your vehicle. He totally enjoyed and appreciated the trip to Chilkoot Charlie's and spoke of it many times to his son Hal White. It brings a happy smile thinking of time with Loring White and just wanted to share this moment with you folks. I hope you have many happy stories to share of Loring White.

Dear Hal and Family
I was absolutely shocked to hear that your Dad had passed away. As I wrote you before your Dad was the best teacher I ever had. I was privileged to be in his English class in both 7th and 11th grade. He taught me how to think "outside the box." He will be greatly missed.

Professor White always seemed to me to be a unique combination of a genteel Hal Holbrook, an Americanized James Mason and
a Tennessee Ernie Ford – Professor White possessed and displayed high intelligence, an understated but first-class grace and an irreverent sense of humor.
In 1972, as a bottom 20% (probably lower) graduate in the BHS class of 1969 and just back in the Zone from Indochina after three years in the Army, I was fortunate to become enrolled in Professor White’s Civilization classes. It was Professor White who implanted in me a love for History and Art. “Learn to PROOF-READ,” was his often marked, red-ink comment on my initial term papers. I eventually complied. I credit Professor White as first among the faculty at CZC who led me to my eventual collegiate success in attaining a Bachelors degree in History, cum laude, with departmental Honors - and later a law degree. Thank you, Professor !!!
God’s Speed –

My condolences to all of you. I was a teen when I met Loring at the Theater Guild in Ancon. My parents were on the Board and we all participated in the plays. He was wonderful to talk to, never talked down to us young people at all, and sometimes helped us with homework. Later, I took his class at CZC and enjoyed it very much. A wonderful person.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I remember and will always remember Dr. White as a good neighbor, kind soul & intellectual beacon of our close community. As a child I often played at his home in Ancon.

In respectful remembrance
I can't say how much Loring imparted to
us at BHS and CZJC. He showed us the
beauty of learning; the need for searching;
and the belief (even through his jokes) that we can achieve through effort.
A GRAND EXPERIENCE

Many are those that remember Loring White as their US History or English Professor at the CZ College in La Boca, CZ. Fond are the memories of those who made us think by telling us something different in a purposeful lecture. His life had meaning and purpose and our hope is that His Creator will remember him for good. So sorry for your loss.

We have all been good neighbors for many years and we'll miss Loring's presence on the street. Nancy has many fond memories of Loring through her involvement with him, working the elections. I knew him only as a friendly, smiling, happy neighbor. May God bless him with the endless cruise of his dreams.
