Ira Yarbrough Obituary

Ira Larry Yarbrough

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ira Larry Yarbrough, who passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona with loving family by his side.

Larry was born on July 29, 1940 in Lordsburg, New Mexico, the only son of Ira Franklin and Annaline Ada (Kennedy) Yarbrough. The family moved several times when he was young, but the majority of Larry's adolescent and high school years were spent in El Paso, Texas where he graduated in 1958 from Stephen F. Austin High School. Larry passed many happy hours under a car or at the dragstrip supporting his fellow El Paso Slo Pokes hot rodders, several of whom remain as lifelong friends. Most recently, Larry was an active member of his townhome association, volunteering countless hours in support of the grounds/maintenance committee.

Larry will be deeply missed and remembered for his humor, sensitivity, and good nature.

Larry is survived by his sister, Patsy Mountford of Camp Verde, Arizona; his children, Tracey Yarbrough and Brian Yarbrough, both of Phoenix; very special niece, Kim Davis of Phoenix; five grandchildren and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susan Bates and Peggy Alden.

Per Larry's wishes there will be no service. Instead, as a passionate supporter of research, he has chosen to donate his body to Research for Life to be used by educators and researchers for the purpose of improving or extending quality of life for people worldwide through medical advancements. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to the American Diabetes Association to support diabetes research via the ADA website: https://www.diabetes.org/donate .

I dated Larry when I was a junior at Austin High School. I was a majorette and he played the drums in the band. He carried those drum sticks around and practiced on any surface he could find. We went to many a dance together and always had a good time. He was definitely a memory from my childhood. I always wondered what happened to him. My sister, Mignonne, who was in his graduating class, saw him at their last class reunion.
I was so sorry to hear he had passed. My condolences to his children and family. I know he will be missed.
