Dr. J.P. "Jack" Lannan

Lannan, Dr. J.P. "Jack"
age 89, passed away peacefully at home in Scottsdale, AZ on July 22, 2015. "Papa" as he was lovingly called was born near West Point, NE to John and Josephine Lannan. Jack was the eldest of four with three younger sisters. Jack's college education was interrupted when called to service in World War II. While serving in the Pacific Theater, he was awarded a Purple Heart medal. Upon returning from the war, he attended Iowa State University where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Soon after, he met the love of his life, JoAnne McCauley. They moved to Columbus, NE where Jack established his veterinary practice while simultaneously starting a family of seven children: Sharon Lannan, Dan Lannan, Kathleen Lannan Brewer, Timothy Lannan (deceased), Patrick Lannan (Pam Canterbury Lannan), Shelia Lannan Adams (Trent Adams) and Maureen Lannan Hohman (David Hohman). In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, he established a prosperous agricultural business, and was a breeder of POA appaloosa horses. As an avid golfer, upon retiring, Jack and JoAnne relocated to Arizona where they wintered in Scottsdale and summered in Pinetop. Both locals provided ideal temperatures for year round golf and entertainment of family and cherished friends. After JoAnne's death in 2007, Jack enjoyed the companionship of Sharon Beall, who shared his remaining years with him. Jack is survived by two sisters; Betty Amento and Margaret Ernesti; six children and nine grandchildren; Ashley Brewer, Kelly Lannan, Josh Lannan, Tanner Lannan, Shane Lannan, Colleen Hohman, Erin Hohman, Maddie Adams, and Shannon Hohman. Jack's life will be celebrated at a memorial mass to be held at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Scottsdale on Saturday, July 25
at 10:00 am. Followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary. (www.messingermortuary.com)
