Jeffrey Kahn Obituary

Kahn, Jeffrey Hay
passed away peacefully on March 24, 2016. Jeff was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Generous, compassionate, and with a sharp wit and twinkle in his eye, he was a trusted friend and confidant to many. He was widely considered as a second father to many of his children's friends. Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Maurine Catherine Frank, of fifty four years, his daughters Heather Kahn and Jennifer Kahn, his grandsons Quinn Gallagher and Ryan Gallagher, and Zia and Hopi. He was preceded in death by Jeffrey Hay "Jay" Kahn Jr. Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, he graduated from New Trier Township High School and Yale University. Jeff lived for many years in Rye, New York where he and Maurine raised their children. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1989. Work colleagues knew Jeff as a driven and confident Managing Partner at Smith Barney/25 years and Dearborn Partners/15 years. He worked tirelessly for charities and organizations, serving on the Boards of Elizabeth Seton College, St. Vincent's Hospital, Westchester CC (New York), Desert Highlands, and President of the Board, Heard Museum (Arizona). A devout Catholic, Jeff was a member of the Knights of Malta and he chaired the Committee for Investment Management for the Phoenix Diocese. Eternally optimistic and outgoing, Jeff had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and collecting Southwestern Art. He was also a voracious and eclectic reader. A visitation will be held on Tuesday March 29 from 4-6 PM at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd, 85255. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Joy, Carefree on Wednesday March 30 at 10 AM with reception to follow at Desert Highlands. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heard Museum, 2301 North Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004 or the Carmelite Monastery of Santa Fe, NM, 49 Mount Carmel Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505, care of Mother Rose (505-983-7232).

March 29, 2016

Dear Aunt Rene, Heather and Jenny,
This morning by chance or cosmic intuition Donna glanced at the obituaries and saw that Uncle Jeff had passed away last Thursday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones during this time of sadness. I have nothing but happy and fond memories of Uncle Jeff and all the times our families spent together when we were younger. Since my mom passed away in 1990 we have drifted apart and not maintained a connection. The distance was compounded with the tragic loss of cousin Jay and the passing of Aunt Liz. Despite the distance and disconnect we still love you all and are holding you close at heart during this difficult time.
Love, Jim and Donna Brydon
