John Kuberra Obituary

John Kuberra

San Diego, CA - John Roberts Kuberra, 58, passed away on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 in San Diego, California. John was born on January 16, 1959, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and moved to Sun City, Arizona with his retired parents when he was 16. John attended Peoria High School and went on to Arizona State University, where he earned a BS degree in Construction Engineering and an MBA in Finance, and became a devoted ASU sports fan. After John graduated from college, he worked in Saudi Arabia for two years in order to earn enough money to pay off his student loans and to purchase his first house and ski boat. Real estate, construction, and home improvement became a passion for John, and he could always be found working on weekends and evenings renovating his family's homes, creating the perfect nest for his wife, Susan, and their three daughters, whom he loved dearly. John's early career centered around real estate in the banking industry. His 25-year banking career began with Pima Savings and Loan in Tucson, where he met Susan, and continued with Valley National Bank, Bank One and JPMorgan Chase in Phoenix, Arizona. His best-in-class, COO performance for JPMorgan's Commercial Real Estate Division led him to be recruited away in 2007 by HSBC Bank in New York, NY, where John became the Head of US Commercial Banking Operations. In 2013, John moved his family back to the west coast in San Diego, California, in order to pursue opportunities related to a low-carbon economy and assist banks with the development of new loan products centered on this new trend. John will be remembered as a great mentor to all who worked under his guidance. He fundamentally changed the lives of those lucky enough to be his friend through his kindness, wisdom, and determination to bring out the best in everyone. John could be found hiking Torrey Pines State Beach several days of the week, and of course, a trip or two to Home Depot was always on the list. John is survived by his wife, Susan; his beautiful daughters, Alexa, Kathleen "Kiki", and Marisa; a brother, David Kuberra; and a sister, Mary Kuberra Swenson. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on January 7, 2018 at Whitney & Murphy, 4800 E. Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ. Charitable donations in John's memory may be made to The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, 1820 W. Webster Ave. #304, Chicago, IL 60614, www.stopsarcoidosis.org.

I very much remember John from high school, Class of '77. Very smart, with a great sense of humor. Last time I saw him was late 70s, early 80s - when he was working on fire crews and even had some flashing lights on the front of his car so he could get there quickly. As so often happens, we lost touch. So sorry to run across this obituary as I was looking him up. My best to all his loved ones.

Isaiah 65: 21-22. They will build houses and live in them... They will not build for someone else to inhabit, Nor will they plant for others to eat. For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full. We all wait for the day when are days we be like the of a tree. Endless. My deep condolences for your loss.

My condolences to your entire family. John was a great mentor, manager and friend to me. So many of his "teaching moments" have helped me through my career and for that I will always be grateful. John was a treasure chest full of information, ideas and concepts and was always willing to share with those who cared to learn. I was one of those fortunate people for having known him. May God grant you fortitude and bless you with only the very best of memories. I am so very sorry for your loss.
