Tucson - Sgt. Johnson McAfee Jr. born July 14, 1923 in Tucson, Arizona to Mr. & Mrs. Johnson McAfee Sr. was killed November 28, 1950 while serving as a Marine in the Korean War during the Battle of the Chosin Reservior. Sgt. Johnson was a member of the F Company, 2nd battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Sgt. Johnson McAfee Jr. joined the Marines at the age of 23 and attended Tucson Indian Training School which was affectionately called "Escuela" graduating in the spring of 1942.
During his time of service Sgt. Johnson received a numerous amount of medals including the Purple Heart. A statement from his daughter: "His country gave him a Purple Heart & his Lord gave him Everlasting Life". The family's desire is that his great grandchildren and the rest of the family will look on his experience and sacrifice and know what a legacy they have. The family is so thankful to the military for their support and effort put forth in identifying Sgt. Johnson's remains and ensuring that he received the burial he deserves.
Sgt. Johnson McAfee Jr's remains have been returned home after 68 years to be buried with honors in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Arizona. On Friday, March 23, 2018 at 1:00pm we celebrate his return home and his service to his community and this grateful nation.
