D'onofrio, Joseph Phillip "Dunny"
83, of Sun City, AZ went home to be with his heavenly father on November 9, 2012. His wife and daughter were at his side. Joe was born in Queens, N.Y. on July 10, 1929 to Giuseppi F and Madelyn S Mandia D'onofrio, both of whom preceded him in death along with son Jonathan W. He moved to San Jose, CA at the age of 13 with his family. Joe was a veteran of WWII serving in Germany. Upon discharge he joined his parents in Washington State. There he met and married Marie Steger. Three sons, William, Robert and John A were born to this union. This union ended and Joe moved to St. Matthews, KY where he met and married Joy Ellis. They were married for 47 years. They blended their families with Joy's children, Jonathan W and J. Darleene. Joe worked for Southwest Recreation as Gen. Mgr. of six bowling centers until they were sold in 1984 and he and Joy were transferred to Grand Junction, CO to Manage Freeway Bowl until 2007. They moved back to Phoenix when they retired. They enjoyed retirement by going on cruises with friends, sharing time with the grandchildren and going out for dinner. He is survived by his wife Joy; 3 sons, William (Lisa), Robert and John A, one daughter, Darleene (Timothy) and daughter-in-law, Lynn, with previous daughters-in-law, Linda, Jan and Shannon. Also 12 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren. Services Monday Nov. 19th at 9:15am National Veterans Memorial Cemetery 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phx 85024.
