Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go to the Duffey Family and friends of Killian. He was a shining example of friendship to all that knew him.
"Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away."

To Killians Family
My heart aches for you all. i met Killian in Sept. when I was in Phoenix for my sons wedding. My family was visiting at a friends house (Diana Erlich) and Killian came over. What a wonderful boy he was. So polite, such a joy to talk to. My teenager granddaughters were with me and they so enjoyed talking to Killian. They are heart broken to hear of his passing.
God Bless you and your family. Words cannot express enough the sadness that I feel for your family.

Duffey Family,
In September 2007, I went to Arizona on vacation from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I met Killian at Danny's house. It was really fun talking to him for the three hours that I did. He became a petty nice friend. Even though I didn't know him that well, I was waiting to go back to Arizona to talk and become better friends. I'm sorry for the loss of Killian but he'll be in my prayers.

Duffey Family
As God creates life God also takes life. The command He gave to you in Killian was to see that he was raised in a God believing home. It appears you succeeded in that task.
While only meeting him at an auto auction and having an opportunity to speak with him a brief nanosecond of his short life, I found a young man who truly loved his parents and realized that they (you) truly loved him. You passed along to him all knowledge that would be needed for him to become a tremendous individual. He was most impressing while we spoke, I realized that he had a spirit about him that few learn how to handle before they are 50 and even fewer learn before they die. A belief in God is the finest gift that you, his parents could bestow and you gave him that gift. He freely accepted that gift and in that you can rejoice. God has taken one so dear to your family and has included him in grandeur for eternity. Killian is in the finest of hands now, the gavel has sounded, the sale concluded and you have been blessed that the Buyer is our Heavenly Father.
God Bless the Duffey Home.

Duffey Family, one of the great things about working auctions together is the fast pace. You get to know each other very quickly. I am so blessed to have had the chance to work with you all several times. I will never forget Killian. What impressive young gentlemen he and Keegan both were when we all met. I remember seeing them and thinking at first, "That's your crew, Rick?" Twenty minutes later I wanted to hire them both and send my crew home! We had a blast, I wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything. Thank you for your friendship, for always staying in touch and bless you for being so strong through this tough situation. With love, The Lunsford Family

The Duffey Family,
I only had the privilege of knowing Killian for a short period of time. In that time he made a remarkable impression on me as an intelligent, caring person. Most of what I know about Killian I have learned from my sister Stacy. Living 3,000 miles away from my family, I often feel that I have missed out on many important things. Not having a better opportunity to know Killian, however, is one of my greatest regrets. I know that he meant the world to my sister, and anyone that means that much to her must be a great person. I can't even guess as to the number of hours she spent telling me about him on the phone.
Please know that in this time of sadness, my thoughts are with you. If there is anything that my family or I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask.

Killian has gone peacefully into the light, leaving behind life and its constant fight. No more having the choice of wrong or right. No more making the decision of fight or flight. As we move on through the bustle and the grind, every day Killian’s memory lives on as long as he’s in our minds. When the realization finally hits, we will all come to find that life includes death as a part of its final design. If there is a reason for life, there is a reason for death, so search for your reason to take your next breath. Nothing in this world is forever, but the time will come when we are all back together. Our lost loved ones are watching out for us way up high, guarding us from the other side. Until it’s our time, please be our guide. I thank God for letting me have the chance to be with you that night, and I will always have you in my heart.

I will be forever grateful to have met and spent time with Killian thanks to the state championship in 2006 and our trip to Boise. Somehow I wound up with Killian and Keegan in my car a lot of the time, at lunch at some pub... Keegan wolfed down most of a full pound burger while I watched in amazement... no one else found this unusual, especially Killian. That was a special time with a special team, it will be hard to see them all there in home whites without him. Killian, you will always be remembered.

Rick & Jane;
My deepest condolonces for the loss of your son Killian. While I didn't know him as an adult, I did have an occasion to see him as a child. Even then he was very loving, outgoing and full of life. I have heard over the years from Mark, how great both of the boys and your daughter were doing. I'm sure this is difficult not only for the two of you but for them as well. My heart goes out to all of you as it is the most difficult thing a parent hopes to never have happen.
May the comfort of your many friends and family help ease the pain at this time and allow you to remember the special youngman that Killian was and all of those lives he touched and changed forever. No one can ever feel your exact pain or tell you the right things to do during this time and beyond, but I'm sure through your faith and all of your family and friends you will find the way through this.
Unforntunately I will not be able to attend the service as I will be in Prescott watching my granddaughter while her parents are out of town. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you and if there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to call.

Since I heard last Saturday I have searched for words that might help comfort and sooth the pain but being a father I have come to the conclusion that there are none. I have spoken to Ian everynight since the day he was born and I could not imagine not being able to talk to him anymore. The pain that you and your family is going through no one should ever have to endure. Killian was a very special person and will live in our hearts forever.

Rick, Jane, Ashley, and Keegs:
I struggle to find the words to express my sadness at the loss of Killian. Although he always called me Uncle Mark, it feels like I've lost a brother and a son more than "just a nephew."
From the time KIllian shared his "special talents" with us at Angels Stadium in June of 1988 to the many times he would visit me at Diamondbacks games - and all the other many sporting events in between - his enjoyment of sports will always be a memory I cherish.
I love all you guys and know that somehow you'll get through this difficult time together. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Dear Rick and Family:
I have no words to express the sorrow I feel for all of you in the loss of Killian. He was truly a special young man and I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet him when I was in Scottsdale and he came to my rescue. For a young man to give up his weekend on an hour notice and help someone in need is rare, however, Killian did it without hesitation. His smile lit up the whole room and you couldn't help but feel good when he was around. He will be missed by so many. We all share in your sadness.

Killian was a tremendous player on the ice and off. Killian was always able to make me laugh as a coach and was willing to learn or coach his teammates. He was an important key in the success of the Mountain Ridge Junior Varsity hockey championship as well as Varsity teams as he grew older. Killian contributed every moment he was on the ice or in the locker room. From a coaches view he was a well rounded player and his smile will be missed. It was an honor for me to have the opportunity to coach him as well as his brother Keegan. My thoughts and prayers go out his family, friends, teammates and the entire Mountain Ridge Hockey Alumni. He will be deeply missed my many.

Dear Rick, Jane, Ashley, and Deegs: Above all things I'm shocked, but I want you to know that my love and affection for Killian and your family had never dwindled since I moved away from you guys in Arizona. At any given time with my struggles in moving or in college I had only to think of my family I left back on 78th LN,to remember that there is good in every situation and Killian was one of the biggest reasons I have come to believe that. With the loss of Killian I have lost one of my most purest friends. I doubt I will ever be able to find someone comparable to his sincere compassion but thanks to what I've learned from him with the short time I have had, I am hopeful. Although Kill is gone, the hope and love he always carried with him will live on no matter what. He left a little bit of him in all of us and we'll carry him to our endeavours. Thank you so much Duffey family for helping him be the man he was for us all to cherish. Much love, and god bless. Marc A. Assad

Rick and Family: it has been years since I have seen you and boys, but I can still remember the bright smile Killian had.
I was given this poem when my father passed away 25 years ago
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints in the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there.
I did not die.
Killian's memory will live on.

I was overwhelmed with grief when I received the news about Killian, and I have been praying for your family since last week. Killian's gentle heart, quick smile, sparkling eyes, and absolute inability to be on time for my class made him unique. As the semester wore on I started class by teasing, "Killian's here...it must be time." He laughed good naturedly in response. On a couple of occasions, he actually announced, "I'm here...you can start" when he strolled through the door. I appreciated his sense of humor and I enjoyed having him in my class. He was also very patient with me, explaining the difference between snowboarders and skiers -- especially focusing on the culture of each. He was a great kid and I'm going to miss him.

Dear Rick and Jane,
Love NEVER dies; it transcends all things. The love you and Killian shared together goes on and those that loved him and that love you continue to share in that love. It's the one thing that is eternal. While no one will be able to take away the loss and pain, hopefully the love of family and friends will help to heal your hearts. My thoughts, my prayers and my LOVE are with you.
