Letitia Ann Featherman Phillips

Letitia Phillips Obituary

TISH ARRIVES OK Letitia Ann Featherman Phillips, "Tish", a 3rd generation Arizonian departed on the Armistice afternoon flight, November 11, 2007, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She arrived safely in Heaven where she will be busy glorifying our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born to a Phelps- Dodge mining family in Bisbee, Arizona on July 7, 1942, she was a lifelong Arizona resident; graduate nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix class of 1963 and spent over 30 years extending orthopedic surgical care with her husband, Dr. Mel Phillips, to countless thousands of patients in Scottsdale and outlying communities in Northern and Eastern Arizona. She was the 1st orthopedic Physicians Assistant in Scottsdale, a member of the Arizona Country Club, and an avid student of God's word attending Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study groups. Tish was a faithful Christian and attended several churches including the Alive non-denominational church in Tucson where her son Jim is a pastor, Prince of Peace Lutheran church in Phoenix and for the past several years Mt. Claret Center in Phoenix. She was a devoted wife for over 4 decades, a precious mother, a faithful friend and loved dearly by many. Her name, Letitia, best describes her personality and life..."abundant joy". She is predeceased by her father and mother, Walter and Edith McKenna Featherman of Bisbee, Arizona, her oldest sister, Margaret Featherman Bugen of Bisbee, Arizona and her brother James Featherman of Safford, Arizona. Tish is survived by her husband O. Melvin Phillips, Sisters Jean Featherman Harshbarger of Tucson, Yvonne Featherman Taylor (Bill) of Bisbee, Children Janice Phillips Steyn (Lionel) of Cleburne, Texas, Denice Phillips Fenger (Peter) of Louisville, Kentucky, Patrice Phillips Sorrell (Jon) of Fresno, California, Jim Phillips (Leslie) of Tucson, Arizona and Laura Phillips Powers (Matt) of The Woodlands, Texas, and 8 loved grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Tish has requested donations be sent to one of her favorite organizations: Alive Church, P.O. Box 90180, Tucson, Arizona, 85752, or Mt. Claret Building Program, 4633 N. 54th Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85018 or Interfaith of Phoenix , 743 W. Buchanan Street , Phoenix , Arizona 85007 . Tish's memorial celebration will be held at Mt. Claret Center on Thursday November 15, 2007 at 10:00 am with a luncheon reception to follow. All are welcome. Her living testimony to all will be forever in our hearts. "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.'" John 11:25-26 Her prayer she left for us is: When I must leave you for a little while Please do not grieve and shed wild tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years But start out bravely with a gallant smile; Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky!

I graduated from high school with Leticia and still remember the morning after graduation eating breakfast in her kitchen after a night of trying to find something to do. We just wanted to say we stayed out all night. It was VERY tame.
What a sweet person, I know her family will miss her terribly.
With happy memories of the "good old days" in Bisbee.
