Lucille Lay Obituary

Lay, Lucille "Lucy"
87, of Phoenix, born Lucille Jorgensen, Feb. 3, 1924 in Iowa, went home to be with Jesus July 23, 2011. After moving to Laveen, Arizona at age two, she attended Roosevelt Elementary and Phoenix Union High School. Upon graduation she worked at the Republic and Gazette and was active at Grace Lutheran Church. Her brother Orville Jorgensen introduced her to Clarence Lay with whom she shared 41 years of marriage until his death. A friend to everyone and blessing to all, Lucille loved to bowl with friends and spent years golfing at Thunderbird Country Club. She spent her last twelve years at Christian Fellowship Square Retirement Community. Lucille is survived by her brother Don Jorgensen, four children Randy (Diane), John (Barbara), Sandra (Chris Fredrick), and Nancy (Dave Warnecke), and nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren whom were the greatest passion of her life. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, sister Eunice Anderson and great grandson Noah Warnecke. Upon Lucille's adamant request, there will be no funeral services because "Life was never about me". Donations in her memory may be made to Hope Church, 2530 W. Happy Valley Rd. Suite 1273, Phoenix, AZ 85085

John, My heart is breaking for you. Even though you think you're prepared for the passing of a parent, you're NEVER prepared. A part of you (literally) will never be in your arms again, or laugh, or cry w/you, for you as a parent. Hope she passed quietly. Love to you and yours.

Lucille was my dearest and unique friend since 1995.Since she came to live at Fellowship Square, she ministered to me in many ways as she did to everyone here. She will always be precious in my memory.

Lucille was one of the kindest and most generous persons I've ever met. She touched my life in so many ways. Love to Sandra, John, Nancy and Randy and their families through this sorrowful time.

My Aunt Lucille Lay was always an inspiration to me. She was a pure and good woman all of her life and her entire family loved her dearly. We are finding out about her death through an e-mail and I guess its not surprising since we have moved so far away in Missouri, and as she evidently was a happy woman and always had a busy life. I hope she is with Clarence now. Love from Michel, Jerry, and Jeff Dobyns in Missouri

It is never easy to lose a loved one, especially a mom. My mom passed away last December, so I know how hard it is. Sometimes they are sick and can never be well again, but letting them go is still difficult. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please e-mail me. We would love to see you at our next SMHS 68 Class Reunion.
