It's been a few years, but to this day I think of Luke and feel the loss that comes when a special person is no longer among us. Steady as she goes my friend. Your friends and coworkers in the White Mountains miss you.

I learned today of Luke's passing today from one of our shipmates. I regret that I never got in touch with Luke over the years. He was a great friend of mine while we served together on board Chandler and we spent many hours talking of God , life, family and friends. He was a strong man on the outside but soft and caring in. I thought of him as the older brother I never had. I've missed him and miss him more now. I have a loss that I cannot get back. To all that new him he was an inspiration. Fare winds my friend, my brother.

I join with the men here who knew Luke on the Chandler. He was always light-hearted, but took his job seriously. He was a man of honor and a friend to everyone he met. Very sorry to hear he was taken at such a young age. A very good man.

I served with Luke on board USS Chandler. He was friend to everyone and a dedicated patriot. I am not surprised to read that he went on to continue serving others after the Navy. My heartfelt sympathies to the family -

Luke, and Cassidy famille I have just this day received notice of Luke's passing. I feel your loss. I served with him on board the USS.Chandler. Luke and I spent a lot of time talking on deployment. He was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. Over the years I often thought about him and wondered what he was up to. The last time I saw him was in Seattle in 1990. Fair winds and following seas my friend. You are in a better place.

My heart goes out to the Cassidy family and my friend Theresa and her family. I know losing your beloved brother has been tough, but I have confidence that you will see each other again in heaven, and in the meantime he knows how you're struggling and he's watching over you. Like we learned in Science, energy can't be destroyed. It just has to take a different form. I think it's impossible to really lose your loved ones. It's just like they're away on a trip, and when you get together again in heaven, it will be a wonderful reunion.
We'll understand so much more some day, but for now, we'll have to cherish our memories and have one-sided conversations with Luke, and continue to live in a way that would make him proud.

My Dear Little Brother~
I can hardly believe that it has been a year today that you left us. Not a day goes by that I don't remember the good times we had together...dancing to Moon River, talking on the phone till sunrise, coming to visit me in Houston and taking the girls on shoulder rides across the 'scary' bridge in the backyard.
There were so many things I didn't get to tell you before you died, and one of them was how much I love you and how much your friendship meant to me. I could always count on you, and you were there unconditionally for us all!! No judgment!
I never got to tell you how much I admired you as a brother. Family was number one, and you showed it through your concern, your letters, cards, and gifts to us all. I remember when I lost my dog bubba in 1986 and you were in Saudi Arabia and found out and wrote me a 5-page letter expressing your regrets. I still have that letter.
My life has changed since you have gone, I am sad and mad at myself for not calling you back when you needed me most. You were always there for me and I let you down. It hurts everyday and if I coudl have another chance I would be talking to you now...I am sorry and miss you so much.
Forever in my heart, thoughts, and prayers...
~Big Sis

The 1st anniversary of your death is in a few days and it feels like time has stood still since you passed as far as the grief goes. I miss you everyday and it brings me some comfort to know that you are with our brother Jimmy and we will see you both some day. I miss your smile, laughter, friendship and protective brotherly ways. You were the best big brother, always there for me when I needed you and never passes judgment. I cherish those times we had together. My kids show others the same kindness, respect, and protective nature of each other that you showed them and it makes me very proud. I miss and love you very much big brother.
Love always,
Lil Sis

I had the pleasure of working with Luke in Ft Defiance a few years back, he was a unique individual so full of life that he glowed. I managed to track him down @ PIH back in February after I came to Alaska to work because he was going to come up here too. I was stunned to hear of his loss & didn’t want to believe it but here is his obituary with his picture & all. He will be missed; my condolences go out to his son, whom he talked about frequently, & his family.

In the short time that I had the pleasure of working with and knowing Luke, we became friends and comrades in the White Mountains of Arizona. I don't know how I am going to tell my grandson and nephew that Luke provided baby sitting service for, that "Uncle Luke" won't be available to entertain them again. I think that I speak for all the therapists, nurses and physicians that he came in contact with when I say that he was a quality guy, a dedicated health care professional, and above all, a kind and gentle spirit. He will be missed more than he could have known.

I have gone over what to say at least a hundred times. My thoughts, my feelings are rampant and of overwelming sadness.
I have not seen Luke in 17 years but when spoke on the phone it was like we had never been apart.
In my life I have had some tough choices and I have often reflected back to my time with Luke. His smile and a wink and you knew everything was going to be all right.
With Luke, I stood a little taller, a little straighter and a heck of alot stronger.
He was Cool Hand and I was Rudi.
He always reminded me that I was the guy who brought the knife to the gun fight and that when we did what we did that I made him him stutter. "damnit Rudy now you making me stutter." There is so much more and at this time I can't express totally to the family how sorry I am.
Last night a part me was taken away
but we had a bond that will never be broken and I will always cherish the times that we spent toghter! Today Luke I will toast you, I will continue to cry but when I wake up in the morning and I see the sun I will look up smile back at you and rermember our time together.
Luke.....Ekul, I love you bro

Luke was Such a Good and Faithful Friend to Me, We spent many hours with each other just being, and talking of our Families and Life Accomplishments.....Luke would Always and Forever say That His Most Precious and Best Accomplishment was His Son Little LUKE, "Moses". His son was the Apple of His Eye. As a fellow Respiratory Therapist at PIMC Luke was very passionate about his work and Patient Care. He always went the extra mile. Lukes other Passion was his KTM motorcycles, he loved to ride, the desert was his playground with his son at his side. Always a SMILE on his face. He will be Greatly Missed.

Luke spent time with us at the Phoenix Indian Medicla center. We would talk, laugh and answer each others questions. Life amongst us was pretty much a gentle breeze with some dirt in it every now and then causing us to close our eyes and bow our heads until it passed. He spoke of his life and asked for prayers. I would see him at a bus stop on his way from the V.A. and pick him up. Always a smile and "Hows it going?". Then its "were you headed?" "Need a ride?" He'd hop in my truck and were on our way. Im gonna miss Luke. I was always looking for him at the bus stops on seventh street. Thinking of him now I figure hell be jumping from cloud to cloud on his motorcycle. Maybe a "cross up" or "table top" every now and then. Luke you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to luke's son and family.
