Marilyn Petrie Obituary

Marilyn E. Petrie, 73, of Mesa passed away July 5th, 2007 after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Devil's Lake, North Dakota, moved to Mesa in 1950 and graduated from Mesa High School. She is survived by Alexander J. ("Jerry"), her husband of 54 years; four children: Jeff Petrie (Beverly), Laurie Petrie Rogers (Waynor), Scott Petrie and Kelly Petrie; two grandchildren: Joshua Petrie and Amanda Petrie, and their mother Jill Petrie; brother Orville Grasser (Janet) and sister Lois Elsperger (Bob). She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Mahnah Club and Mesa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener with a "green thumb," a talented self-taught seamstress, artist and interior decorator. She discovered the game of golf after all her children had been raised, served as president of the Mesa Country Club Women's Golf Association and won a number of tournaments over the years. She delighted in being a grandparent and helping to raise her two grandchildren. Her services will be held on Monday at Queen of Peace, 141 North MacDonald, at 10:00 AM Monday July 9th. We invite all to join us in a celebration of a life well-lived. Arrangements by Meldrum Mortuary.

My dear sweet Aunt Marilyn, what a lovely lady! I will miss her cute little laugh and wonderful hospitality. I feel honored to have known her and been asked to read at her service. The reading is I Cor 13:1 - 13. It is often read at weddings. It goes 'love is patient, love is kind......' Love, well Uncle Jerry and Aunt Marilyn sure had it. My mom, Peggy, used to say that Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Jerry were one of those couples that had "it". They were just crazy about each other! And it showed! Aunt Marilyn personified love in word and deed throughout her entire life. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Marilyn always kept them "in love". She really got it....we are on this earth to serve and to love and spend our lives increasing our capacity to love. She was a fine example to all of us! Go in peace and be with the angels, sweet angel. Love, Annie
