Summers, Marilyn Janis Burson
Marilyn Janis Burson Summers passed away January 29th at home surrounded by her loved ones. Born October 2, 1929, the third generation Arizona native was an alumnus of Roosevelt Elementary, North Phoenix High and ASU. She worked for twenty years at Avondale Schools as a teacher and administrator and was a member of Chi Omega and Delta Kappa Gamma sororities. She was an enthusiastic pianist and tennis player. Her proudest achievement though was a 58 year marriage to her sweetheart Donald E. Summers. They resided for the past twenty years in the home they built in Payson, Arizona where they warmly welcomed friends and family. She is survived by her brother Gary C. Burson of Mesa, her children Wendy Summers Rex of Scottsdale, Mark Summers of Flagstaff, Claudia Summers Martinez of Chino Valley, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 4, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Whitney &
Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. Interment will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.
