Martell Tuntland Obituary

Martell Freeman Tuntland, passed away March 13th, 2005, after 61 yrs Trial Marriage to, Phyllis 84 (Nicki) Tuntland. He is survived by his wife, sister, Ona Fruland 89 two sons, Gregory 57 and David 60, and niece Ingrid 17, daughter of Greg and Tiaa Tuntland, and by Numerous Friends. Born in Kansas City, MO, in 1920, grew up in Norway, IL, started his family, in Streator, IL, moved to Joliet, IL, and then, Retired to Sun City, AZ in 1981. Marty was an Electrial Engineer with Commonwealth Edison, Was on the Founding Team, that in 1960, Opened Dresden, First Peaceful Use of Nuclear Power in the US, Instituted Helicopter Inspections of High Tension Power Lines, Originated the Accounting Principals used by, All Major US Corporations, Did a Movie in 1963, with his son, that was Translated into 30 Languages and used as a Training Film by Electrical Utilities for Underground Distribution. A WWII Vet, Camper, Water Skier, Loved Golf, had 3 Golf Patents, got 3 holes in one, was Past President of the Sun City Country Club. A Supporter and Graduate of Northwestern University as an Electrical Engineer, Started Various Ongoing Groups including, Sun City Northwestern Alumni Association, Big Ten Golf Tournament, and Marty's Choice. Organizations: Toast Masters, Y-Indian Guides, IEE, MOAA, Scandinavian Club, Elks, Moose, and West Valley Art Museum. Funeral, Saturday, April 16th, 10:30 am, Menke Funeral Home 12420 N. 103rd, Sun City, AZ. Memorial Service, same day, 3:00 pm at Wooddale Village, 18616 N 99th and Union Hills, Sun City, AZ, Internment: Tuesday, April 19, 1:00pm, National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, Cave Creek and Pinnacle Peak Roads, Phoenix. Uncle Marty was always generous with his time and stories. I enjoyed especially the afternoon I spent with him in 2003. I learned so much about him and Aunt Phyllis. His love and respect for her touched my heart.
