Martha Petersen Obituary

Martha Jane Davies Petersen, 82, of Sun City, Arizona, died on Saturday, May 17, 2003. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec. 8, 1920. She married Ray A. Petersen on October 14, 1939. They shared 63 years of a wonderful marriage re-lationship. They moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1952. She established a ballet and tap studio there, teaching hundreds of young boys and girls over nine years. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1963. She again established a dancing school. One of her male students became a major dancer in a New York ballet company. Some of her many students went on to become dance teachers later in life. In retirement they moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1979. She became interested in pottery and joined the Sun City Clay Club. She learned quickly, and later began teaching pottery there, and for many years taught the advanced class. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships while at the club. She was very involved in the Empty Bowl project. Martha is survived by her loving husband, Ray, two sons, James Ray of Aliso Viejo, California, and Ted Kay of Provo, Utah. She loved their 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren through James, and their grandchild through Ted. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Any memorial donations are requested to be sent in her name to the Sun Health Hospice Care Services, 12740 N. Plaza del Rio Blvd., Peoria, Arizona 85381, who provided such loving and dignified care. Arrangements handled by Sunland Memorial Park.
