Mary Canepa Obituary

Canepa, Mary
86, died April 2, 2015, Holy Thursday, surrounded by her loving family and the prayers of many. Born November 8, 1928, she was the daughter of Rosario and Lena Scheri. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Antonio Canepa, a dear son Nick and a loving and close sister Connie Duca. Born in Chicago and moving back to Italy at a young age, she then moved back to and lived in Indiana, returning the Chicago where she stayed until 1979 when she and her husband Nino and two sons Patrick and Nick moved to Phoenix, AZ. As part of the Greatest Generation, Mary knew what hard work, devotion and dedication, as well as sacrifice were all about. Making the most of her meager education, she devoted her life to being a wife and mother. Always teaching the importance of working hard and doing all you can for your family; her sons and family will always be grateful to her and Antonio for all they have ever done. Her greatest legacy will be her faith and love for God, Our Blessed Mother and all the angels and saints. Thank you Mom! Thank you Dad! It is that faith and those lessons handed on to her children and their families that is most treasured of all! It is also her sense of humor, playfulness and love for life that will be missed. She was blessed to be able to live and stay in her home of 35 years where she felt comfort and security, for as long as possible. Many wonderful meals and memories came from there and will always be treasured in our minds and a source of gratitude. Mary is survived by her sons and their families, whom adored and loved her. Patrick and Theresa Canepa and their loving children Joe and April Garner, loving son Steve Stevens and loving and precious grandson Micah Stevens, who through their humor, developed a special bond. As well as many other family members, Nick and Rhapsody Canepa and their loving and precious son Ezekiel and many other family members included. Two surviving nephews in Chicago to whom she was very close and cared for, and by, are Frank and Reno Duca and wife Tina and their children Alaina and Carla in addition to many good, close and dear long time family and friends. Also many dear and loving family and friends in New York including Joe and Josephine, Anthony and Rose, Giovanni and all the Canepa families there and elsewhere that knew her and loved her. We love you Ma (Mary!) We will always thank God for you! Thank you Jesus! Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 5:00-8:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 9, at 10:00am at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, presided over by Father Rolyn.

Grandma Mary, these past few months were really difficult. My Pop, mom, husband Joe, brother Steve, and nephew Micah (family and friends) were all by your side when you were in and out of the hospital and at the nursing home. You kept telling me you'd never forget all of what we did for you. We loved you and wouldn't consider not being by your side. Pop worked hard every day pulling double shifts to make sure you were well taken care of and that above all you could stay in your home for as long as possible.
My Pop and mom did take you home one last time. He carried you in his arms back into your home and you were so happy to be there. I know you taught him to work hard and to provide for your family no matter what. Even while working double shifts my Pop always took the time and made a way for us to gather as a family to spend time with you. We miss your sweet face and spunkiness. We know your home with Christ, Grandpa Tony and your sweet baby boy Nick whom you've missed for a very long time. Grandma Mary, watch over us and we'll see you again. We love you

Mom/Mary/Momma Nonna,
We already miss you tons but we know that you are in Heaven with your loved ones and our Lord. I am so thankful to you for raising the amazing man I am blessed to call my husband. I also thank you for loving me and I have enjoyed all of the times we spent together, like making breadcrumbs in your kitchen :) I am thankful that you were able to know our Ezekiel - he loves you so much! He will always think of you whenever he eats a peppermint candy like the ones you always shared with him :) You were always an amazing example to us through your strong devotion to our Blessed Mother. Please continue to pray for us all.
I love you & will miss you always,
Sincerely,
Your daughter in law,
Rhapsody Canepa

Mary, now that you have begun your final journey to your eternal resting place and your new home with our father, know that you will be missed but know we are also happy that you will be in the light of Christ as you reconnect with your husband and baby. We will continue to pray for you and for the healing of your sons. I know Nicki will miss you so much but because he took such great care of you for so many years he has a special bond that cannot be replaced. He is an awesome son that is a reflection of your love and also your humor. May your journey to the Lord be swift and filled with God's special peace. We will miss you and always love you.
