Dear Don,
I just heard today about Nancy and wanted to write to tell you how sad I am about your loss and how important Nancy was to me. She was my first counselor, beginning around 1975, and I worked with her for about 4 years. She was kind, compassionate, wise and had such a great sense of humor, and, through our work, I pulled out of my depression and was able to create a new life after divorce. Perhaps her most important contribution to my life was her suggestion that I get my Master of Counseling - I really believe that her confidence in me is what allowed me to have the courage to move forward. I graduated from ASU in 1980 and have been working full-time in the field since then, with the last 27 years in private practice. I also followed her into teaching in graduate school for 17 years and even wrote a book last year! Being a psychotherapist is my calling, but I don't think I would have heard the call without Nancy. I have seen her at times through the years and have always sent her my Christmas letters and thanked her. I'm sure you must miss her terribly, but please take some solace in the knowledge that there are many of us out here who know that Nancy made the world a better place because of the way she showed up for life.
