Nancy Wessel Obituary

Nancy Kathryn Wessel, 71, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on June 8,
2006. She was born on January 30, 1935, in South Bend, Indiana, to Frank and Genevieve Hockett. She has lived in Phoenix since 1953 and has been involved in numerous organizations. She had served as a legislator in the Arizona House of Representatives for twelve years where she was Chairman of the Health Committee before retirement. She was a member of the National Order of Women Legislators, North Phoenix Republican Women's Club, Phoenix Symphony Auxiliary, Arizona Town Hall, the Mental Health Guild, National Federation of Republican Women, Arizona Federation of Republican Women, and ASU Alumni Association. She and her husband had been married 50 years on June 2, 2006. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Todd Wessel. She is survived by her loving husband, Merle, son, Alan S. Wessel, daughter, Lynn K. James (Collin), sister, Marilou Near (William), brother, William Hockett (Mickey), sister, Patricia Busha and grandchildren; Travis Wessel, Zachary Wessel, Bruce James and Rachael James, and her long time caregiver Mindy Gray. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening June 13, 2006, from 6-8pm at Hansen Mortuary 8314 N. 7th St. Phoenix, AZ. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 9:00 am at First United Methodist Church 5510 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85012 . Memorial contributions may be made to a memorial fund at the First United Methodist Church. She had a wonderful spirit and gave so much of herself to others. She will be greatly missed.
