I often think of Paul with a smile, remembering his jokes and pranks. 2020 was the 40th anniversary of our high school class graduation. COVID prevented the planned celebration; however, the occasion certainly brought to mind Paul's excellent leadership as our class President. On the anniversary of his passing, my thoughts are with Paul's family and his partner Tim.

I met Paul when I moved to Arizona in 2006. I relocated from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. He was one of the first people I met who made me think adjusting to desert life might not be that bad. I can't say I knew him well or for very long but I did see his passion for life. It's been 10 years since I last saw him and stumbled upon his info in an old phone and thought I should check the Web to see what's he's been up to and saw this. It hurts to know that's someone is gone who touched so many lives no matter how briefly. Those of you who knew him have my sympathies.

I met Paul in the late 90s, early 2000's and Paul was one of the most fun, kind, and beautiful people you could ever meet. As years have passed by I found myself in Phoenix on work and decided to look up an old friend. I am so very very saddened by this news as Paul will always be one of the mostly lovely human beings I have ever met. Thoughts to all who knew and loved him.

I worked with Dr Paul Johnson at St Luke's as I worked my way through nursing school from 2001-2006. He was a wonderful teacher, a caring doctor and just the best person all around. I came upon this notice of his death today as I searched for a contact number for him. I recently became a nurse manager for an exciting global organization and we are looking for a medical director. Dr Paul Johnson was the first person I thought of... imagine my sorrow when I came upon this information. Dr Johnson was a very private person and it was only through this guestbook that I have come to learn that he had a life partner, Tim. To Tim, Paul was a wonderful man and I am sure a wonderful partner. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that he is greatly missed and will be remembered.
My deepest sympathies,

Having been gone for the last month I was deeply saddened when I returned yesterday and learned of Dr. J's passing. As a patient I found him to be a physician who was intelligent, caring, compassionate and humorous. Dr. J was truly a healer in the full sense of the word. Dr. J thank you for care you gave me. You will be missed.

I knew Paul when he was an RA at a dorm at the University of Missouri. My best friend lived on his floor and I worked at the front desk so we had ample opportunities for goofiness and fun. We also went camping once and trying to find a campground in the dark, we camped in an archery range! He once even offered me a free appendectomy if I ever needed one. As you can see, my memories of Paul are happy ones. I am sure his positive spirit continued to enhance other people's lives throughout the years. I am very saddened to hear about his death. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and closest friends.

I am devastated by the loss of my friend PJ. I too had the pleasure of working with Paul for several years at St Luke's. If ever there was a perfect human being it would be Paul. I am very saddened by the loss of Paul a wonderful person and a wonderful physician. I worked with Paul during residency and have many fond memories of our early years during our training. My deepest sympathy to Tim and Paul's family.

January 22, 2011

To Tim and the Johnson family,

I first knew Paul through Centralia friends in the dorms at Mizzou and our friendship continued through medical school. I last saw him in 1996 when he took time to meet me for lunch in Phoenix when I visited there. In college, after I cooked him supper one night, having burned most of it, he sent me flowers and a card which said, "Thanks for a lovingly beautiful evening" .

I celebrate a lovingly beautiful man and his life.

May Paul's love for life hold you up in the days ahead.

After spending the last week trying to figure out what to write here, we are still at a loss for words. There are no words to express our sadness at the loss of a great friend or the heartache we feel for Tim and the rest of Paul’s family. And so, we wanted to post this picture of Paul and Tim as we wish to remember him, gorgeous and goofy. We are fortunate to have many fond memories of time spent with “P & T”. The ski trips, the cruises, dinners at fabulous restaurants and each other’s homes, quiet retreats to Pinetop with all our dogs… You will be truly missed, friend.
This picture was taken at one of our great trips to Aspen. I believe it was the year Paul misdiagnosed my broken shoulder.

A great memory of a great trip with great friends.

Dear Aunt Margaret and cousin Brian, Kitty and I were shocked and saddened when dad called and informed us of Paul's untimely passing. Although we cannot be there with you this week-end, our hearts go out to you, and you are in our prayers. Sadly, while distance kept us from ever getting to know Paul, all of the entries in his guest book are a tribute to the wonderful man that I am sure he was. May you be comforted by all of the wonderful memories during the time that you had him with you. We are sure that the gates of Heaven opened wide to receive him.
All of our love and prayers,

On the morning we read the very sad news of Dr. Paul's passing, a glorious white amaryllis blossomed in the morning sun. We imagine this as a tribute to Paul and the love he shared with Tim. We are saddened to know his life was cut short while at the same time awed by the many lives he enhanced during his time here. May memories of Paul's laughter comfort all who knew him.

January 21, 2011

My sincerest condolences to Dr. Johnson's Life partner, his surviving family (mother and father especially), The Entire West Valley ED/rad techs/CRTs and The docs and administration who had the opportunity to appreciate Dr. Johnson's talents and kindness.

I spent my first 2 years of emergency nursing alongside Dr. Johnson. He always made time to answer questions and share his wisdom with patients,
employees and pt families. Our team inc. Dr. J, worked all to often (side by side) to address immediate life threatening issues and attempt to stabilize pt for ICU or transfer. The pediatric codes Paul ran (w/ me and appropriate staff), were physically/mentally/emotionally exhausting: I believe Dr. Johnson did better then his best- I don't think Paul's thought process would allow him to "just meet standard of care". When he had to tell families that "we did all we could", I would never question this from him. Patients and their loved were blessed to have care from one of the most talented physicians I've seen: Paul set a "golden standard", for ED doctors and nurses; practiced the golden rule with all and also educated W.V. community regarding healthcare preventative and maintenance.

my son was under-treated at peds/peds ER but had been sick for weeks...I learned Dr. J was on for that night, strapped the baby in for our 35min ride from Scottsdale--->Goodyear, to have Dr. J (someone i trusted in treating my super-son).
That's the best professional compliment i think i could give. I never new Dr. Johnson on a personal level but the outpouring of support and love assures me that he's touched many many lives in his tragically short life.

"If You Gotta Be A Monkey, Be A Gorilla"- REDMAN
One of my favorite quotes, applies well to Dr. Johnson's Professional life!

Paul was one of the best and brightest students I had the pleasure of working with at Centralia High School. As a beginning teacher Paul challenged me to do better. One of my best memories from my many years in Centralia was the friendship I shared with his family. While as serious a student as Paul could be there was a fun side, that could light up the room with joy.
While I've not had the pleasure to know Tim, I want to extend to you my deepest sympathy, I sure there is a huge part of your life missing, that no words can fill. I will keep you, Paul, and the rest of his family in my thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks to come.

My husband and I met Paul and TIm on our trip to China. He was funny, smart, and above all, good. We will never forget the look of glee on his face when he was able to help my husband, who had gotten sick. He clearly took so much pleasure in healing others. We are beyond sorry to hear nobody could heal him. The world lost someone very special this week. Our hearts go out to Tim and his family.

In my experiences with Dr. Johnson, he demonstrated to me that he really believed that the care he provided was noble work. He had so much compassion and understanding for both his patients and colleagues. Based on the outpouring of love and fond memories, I have no doubt that he did what he was placed on this earth to do--positively impact lives and make a difference. My thoughts and prayers are with Tim and the rest of Dr. Johnson's family.

Dr. Johnson was a great friend. He will be missed on this earth, but will be in my thoughts forever. My good wishes go out to Tim as well as Paul's family. It is with a very heavy heart that I must say goodbye here because I am unable to attend the memorial services. Good bye my friend, I love you.

Paul was a very close friend from school years, college and beyond. He was funny, smart, compassionate and a FABULOUS friend. I will miss him so and feel very fortunate to have had him in my life. Thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Johnson and Brian and all of Paul's family and friends.

It is unfortunate that it takes a catastrophic event like this to attempt to say what a person has meant to us. Dr. Johnson was many things to many people. For me, he was a physician that I had the honor to spend the majority of my career with. He was a compassionate, patient person that I learned so much from. I, and the community, will suffer the loss of a friend, co-worker, and talented physician. Love and sympathy from the Major family to Tim and the Johnson family. You all have the support of so many that loved Dr. Johnson. I am honored to have had him as my friend.

I can't believe he is gone. Rarely have I known someone as well-thought of as Paul. Everyone that knew him had only kind things to say about him. I am truly sorry for the loss of his partner and family.

Dr. Johnson was a wonderful physician and human being. I was blessed to have worked with him at Boswell Memorial Hospital and on several occasions flying patients into West Valley Hosptial. Always looked forward to seeing him and knew he would take excellent care of the patients I brought him. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones. He will be greatly missed.
