Paul Benjamin Martin

Phoenix - Paul Benjamin Martin passed away on May 24th, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Clarence Martin and Grace Stout. The family moved to Phoenix when Paul was three, and grew up on a 40-acre citrus grove in South Phoenix. Paul went to Roosevelt grade school, Phoenix Union High class of '55. At ASU he received a B.A. in 1959, and a M.A. in 1965.

He started teaching in 1959 in the Roosevelt School District (Valley View). He primarily taught 5th grade and gifted classes during his 37 years of teaching.

Paul spent six years in the Air National Guard. He was President of classroom Teachers Association, PTA, NEA, board member of AEA, Tempe Elks. Paul was involved in many organizations in South Phoenix over the years. Paul's greatest love after retiring was volunteering at the PHOENIX PUBLIC Library, Friends of the Library. He was voted Friends of the Phoenix Library volunteer of the year. He worked with the Ocotillo and South Mountain Community Library in South Phoenix!

He was a Christian man and loved his family dearly. He met the love of his life on a blind date. Paul and Joyce Mendenhall Martin would have been married 60 years in October. Three sons, James Paul, Scott Brent (Kathy), and Christopher Todd. 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Nicholas, Christina Martin (Clement Pang), Samantha Guzman (Jake), Katy Pollock (Michael), Alyssa, Noah Martin (Kessy), Joshua, and Benjamin. Three greats, Kenadie Martin, Nixxon Martin, and Cole Guzman.

Preceding deaths, parents, sisters, Mary and Janet, and brother, John. Surviving sibling, Carl Martin, Tiburon, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice at Home of Arizona, 1423 South Higley Road, Suite 121, Mesa, AZ 85206, or Make-A-Wish, 2910 North 78th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85215. Services will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so at the Elk's Club.

I do not think that anyone could love their snacks more than MY Paul did. It seemed to me that the cheaper they were the better. That is where the dollar store came in. He l-o-v-e-d their cookies. Rest well my beastey and always remembered that we were the firsts, and that I love you!!!!
