Paul Thompson Obituary
Survived by daughter Barbara Mason; son Phil Thompson and his wife Terese; daughter-in-law Cinda Thompson. Paul is survived by grandchildren Charissa Saltzman and husband John; Erin Velasquez and husband Joseph; Sara Mason; Shannon Thompson and husband Craig; Samantha Stone; Paul J Thompson; and Matthew Thompson. Great grandchildren: Marielle, Rosalie, Carolyn, and David Saltzman; Bailey and RJ Thompson; Grace Stone. Family that preceded Paul in death include his wife of 60+ years Marilyn Blackburn Thompson (2013), his son Timothy (2002), his parents Roscoe and Bessie, and his 10 brothers and sisters. Paul Thompson was the founding pastor of Heritage Free Will Baptist Church in Gilbert, AZ from 1983 until he retired in 2014. He also started Heritage Preschool and Heritage Christian Academy. Prior to that he pastored the Heritage Free Will Baptist Church in Columbus, OH (1966-1982) and Mechanicsburg Free Will Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg, OH. He was known and loved by many nationwide. Services will be held on July 15 at 10 AM at Compassion Church (formerly Heritage Free Will Baptist Church), 919 E Guadalupe, Gilbert, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Gideon Bibles, Hospice of the Valley, or Compassion Church. More information is

He was a man I truly admired, looked up to and valued the wisdom and time he invested in me. I considered him my Pastor, friend, advisor and confidante. I will truly miss him and I look forward to seeing him again someday.
