Peter Costas Obituary

Costas, Peter Jeffrey
Peter Jeffrey Costas, passed away February 20, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 3, 1950, to George Thomas Costas, the son of Greek immigrants, and Jane Louise (Lambert) Costas. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School (Class of 68) and The Ohio State University. He married his love and best friend, Candace MacDonald in 1972, and had three children: Barbara (John Biggs), Mac (Amy), and Christopher. He was adored by his three grandchildren, Jack Eliot and David Costas, sons of Barbara and John Biggs, and Elizabeth Jane (EJ), daughter of Mac and Amy. He is survived by his wife, Candy, his love of 44 years. Also surviving are his older brothers, Thomas, of Michigan, George, of Cambodia, and his sister, Barbara Costas, of Chicago. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Barbara MacDonald, and brothers-in-law, Scott, Kirk, Eric and Bruce MacDonald, their wives, and many nieces and nephews. A special mention should also be made of his lifelong friends and "mondos", Frank Cunningham, Tom Rogowski, Scott Holz, Andrew Frowine, and Roger Webb. Theirs was a 46-year friendship unfazed by time and distance. Friends and family will remember Pete every time they hear Simon and Garfunkel or Crosby, Stills, and Nash, every time they eat a memorable meal, on those crisp fall days when the Horseshoe is full of scarlet and gray, when they look at the Atlantic Ocean, or drink a glass of red wine. His love for his family and friends was steadfast and unwavering, and for his support and love they will always be grateful. He will never be forgotten, but will be loved and spoken of every day. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation in remembrance to Pete to Sherman Home, Hospice of the Valley, in Phoenix, Arizona, or to the American Cancer Society. The family also wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Sherman Home, including Jennette, Bonnie, Jaime, and Dri. There will be a memorial at the family's home in Scottsdale on Sunday, February 28th from 2pm-4pm, and a second memorial at a later date in Portsmouth, Ohio. Candy and Family, I am saddened to know of Pete's death. I have many fond rememberences of Pete and me back in "The Old Days". I always considered Pete as one of the best guys I've ever known. Pete and I became best friends in 1968 when he and his family moved to Portsmouth from Michigan. Only time and distance has seperated us from friendship on a regular basis. Pete will be forever remembered and missed by many.
