Pierre Ethier Obituary

Pierre (Pete) Leo Ethier, 74, was born July 25th, 1930 in Spencer, Mas
sachusetts to Elphage and Emma Rose Ethier. Pete passed away on Father's Day, June 19th , in order to keep a long-standing appointment with his "sweetheart". He was the youngest of 8 children growing up during the depression. Pete's initial passion was baseball, after high school he signed with the Cardinals minor league professional baseball team. He played professional baseball for a couple of years until the Korean War took him over seas. Stationed in Germany, Pete had the chance to travel Europe before returning home to resume his professional baseball career. It was during one of his spring training stops in Phoenix in 1956 that Pete met the "sweetheart" of his life, Evalina (preceded Pete in death). They were married for 44 wonderful years, and during that time raised 4 boys, Byron (wife Sandye), Gene (wife Barb), Kevin (wife Debby), and Erin (wife Kim). Pete worked for over 30 years at Airesearch/Allied Signal before retiring in 1990 and traveling with Evalina. They experienced many great adventures throughout the US and Canada in their motor home with car in tow, sometimes being away for as many as 6 months at a time. Pete was a tremendous mentor and Dad to his sons. In addition to Dad's sports influence from baseball, to basketball, to tennis, Dad's calming guidance in day-to-day life over the 40 plus years of raising his sons is very evident. He also loved and adored his grandchildren, Andre', Robby, Adam, Nick, Brett, Nicole, Danielle, Devon, Courtney, Britni, Shaye, Sean, and Kayla. Grampa always had something to brag about or show-off for friends about each of his grandkids. They will each miss Grampa tremendously, but Grampa will never be forgotten. Grampa touched and influenced many-many lives over his 74 wonderful years and we are extremely fortunate and blessed. Viewing and Rosary on Thursday, June 23rd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Best Funeral Services, 9380 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria, AZ. 85345, Celebration of Life and Mass on Friday, June 24th at 10:00 at St. Simon & Jude, 6351 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. 85017.

I got to know Pete from the baseball games at ASU while Andre was playing for the Sun Devils.

I also worked at AiResearch/Honeywell and knew Pete's name, but had never worked with him directly.

We had many enjoyable discussions about Pete's experiences in pro ball, baseball and softball at AiResearch, and grandson Andre's accomplishments at ASU.

My condolences to the Ethier family on their loss.

My deepest sympathies to all of the Ethier friends and family. I had a lot of fun hangin' with "Ma and Pa E" and all of the Ethier boys over at the old homestead during my high school and college days. There was always something going on over there- lot's of good talk and a menagerie of animals to boot. And Pa E was the picture of health with his tennis game and all. I know Pa E will be deeply missed by all including me. God bless you Mr. Ethier. Thanks for all of the good times!

I will miss the talks I had with Pete. Seems the subject always got around to baseball.

Very sorry to hear about Pete's passing. Pete played 2nd base and I played shortstop on Aireseach's championship teams so we knew each other well. He was a great man, ballplayer and friend will be missed. I am in San Diego at the present time.
