Reyes Montoya Obituary

Reyes S. Montoya, 81, of Tempe, AZ, formerly of York Valley, AZ, died peacefully Sept. 24 at home surrounded by family. Reyes was born Sept 27, 1923 in Tortugas, NM, a suburb of Las Cruces, and served his country with valor during WW II as a member of the Army. Reyes is survived by four children, Virgie & Gilbert "Tobar" Franco, Tempe, Tom & Gerri Montoya, Portland, OR, Judy & Frank Denogean, Chandler and Phillip "Pino" & Mary Montoya, Tempe; 12 grandchildren and 10 gr. grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lydia and daughter Ruth. Reyes and Lydia lived in Morenci for the better part of their lives where Reyes retired from Phelps Dodge after 33 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Morenci & the VFW Post in Clifton where he was a member of the color guard. Reyes loved baseball, camping, hunting & fishing. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6-8:00 pm, with a recitation of the rosary at 7 pm at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 am at Church of the Holy Spirit, 1800 E. Libra Dr., Tempe. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa
