Rick Beck Obituary

Beck, Rick
"Heaven gained a great guy and an unending stream of one-liners." Rick Beck passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2009. He was born in Phoenix and lived here most of his life. He is survived by his wife LouAnn; brother Milo and wife Sue of Chandler, AZ; sister Jayne Kadum and husband Fareed of St. Simon Island, GA; mother-in-law Flossie Steffen of Warren, MN; nieces/nephews: John, Justin, Zack, MacKenzie, Karis, Jason, Hunter and Hannah; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel H. and Pat Beck, sister Patsy Moses, and niece Kellie Campbell. Born on June 10, 1951, Rick was known for his one-liners and practical jokes. He married LouAnn, the love of his life, on November 9, 2002. They loved to travel together to Georgia to visit his sister and to The Bahia in San Diego. Rick and LouAnn took trips to the USVI and Ireland, where he returned to his roots and showed THEM how to drink beer and live it up. He was an incredible cook, loved crossword puzzles, beer and bird hunting with the boys. Rick, with his huge heart and beautiful blue eyes, touched so many lives and made this world a better, funnier place - he will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 31st at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale at 12 Noon. Rick was not one for a suit and tie, so please feel free to wear your favorite Hawaiian attire in his honor. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Hospice of the Valley, Central Office, 1510 E. Flower St., in memory of Pat Beck and Rick Beck.

I met Rick through LouAnn. What a wonderful man he was. I always jested with her of how much she raved about what he did and knew. He certainly was loved by his wife.
I had the pleasure of visiting with him on occasion. The Becks hosted one of our annual department christmas parties and oh the host with the most he was. I really admired him.
He will be remembered by all as the friend to everyone.

Knowing Rick since High School, I have an endless supply of memories...
Speaking of High School..
Our 40th reunion will be held later this year, not that Rick was planning on attending. The only time he showed up for such an event was at our 20th.
He knocked on my hotel room door at about midnight, after the festivites had ended. "What a wonderful surprise" I thought.
It didn't take us long to empty the honor bar of all it's contents, so Rick proceeded to order from room service a couple cases of those little airplane bottles of vodka and anything else the hotel had to offer at that time of the morning. We stayed up all night, had a good 'ol time and laughed ourselves silly as usual.
A wrap on the door at 6:00 AM reminded me that I had a tee time in about a half an hour. I left Rick in the room to get some much needed sleep as my partners wisked me off for a rousing round of golf.
When I returned to the room later that day Rick was gone. Everthing was clam, like the morning after a hurricane.
The room tab, hangover and golf score were all quite large that day.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

As I told Louann in a personal message, Rick and his Mom had a huge impact on my life. Their generosity and laughter will never be forgotten.
My friend Rick was a unique character.
Talented, smart, funny.
Things just won't be the same without him.
