Rick,
Nothing but fond memories of good times we shared and the adventures we sought. Of course, our ski trips are some of my most vivid memories especially those to Ironwood in the UP! You were a good friend to me.

I had the pleasure to attend Parkside, swim on the school team, and many other early life contacts with Rick. Always a good memory.

So sorry to hear this sad news about my high school friend. We both worked together for his dad at Jayda construction during the summer back in the day. Rick in his green and white Spartan hard hat and me in my maize and blue Wolverine hard hat. He was a skilled carpenter. Not surprised to hear of his very accomplished career in the land development business. Go Green, Go White, Rick. The world is a much less jovial place without you, My sincere condolences to the Hurula family.

Craig and I were so saddened and shocked to hear this news. Rick was a great friend for close to 40 years for me, longer for Craig. We had lots of great laughs over the years with both he and Mary and our hearts are heavy with loss. Spartan game watches will never be the same. Our prayers and sympathies to the family. Rick was a great person, wonderful friend and true Spartan.

The Arizona Spartans and Michigan State University will miss Rick deeply. I first met Rick after moving out to Arizona in 2002 at our game watch at the Vine in Scottsdale. And for the next 17 years it's been one of us or all of us at Spartan Game Watches from "The Vine" to "McDuffys" to "The Upper Deck" to "Majerles" to "Bevvy" and finally to "Wasted Grain." Rick was at them all. Sometimes, when the Spartans were losing, it was just Rick and I doing a two person game watch and I'd ask, why are we here? And he'd say "Cause we're Spartans, that's why!" We also traveled to many road trips to watch our Spartans play such as MSU vs CAL in Berkely in 2008 and recently back in East Lansing for MSU vs ASU game.
Rick loved his family first, then Michigan State. As a tribute to Rick, we'll be creating a plaque by his normal bar seat at Wasted Grain and leave it open unless his son Jack decides to come by. We'll also have a moment of silence at our next game watch for the Bowl Game on Dec 27th at 1:20PM.
The last time I saw Rick was last Tuesday, Dec 3rd at Wasted Grain for the MSU vs Duke Game Watch. He seemed in good spirits even though the team was losing. He said, "it's December, we'll be fine!" I'll miss seeing Rick at each Game Watch but know he's watching from somewhere. And his presence will always be felt from his seat at Wasted Grain. RIP Rick! Always, Go Green!!!
