Robert Boorman Obituary

Boorman, Robert W.
age 86, died at home March 3. Survived by loving wife Helen of 58 years, daughter Gail Bloxham (Steven), sons Garry and David, sister Agnes Kramer, grandchildren Robert and Maggie Bloxham, Andrew, Emma, and Alek Boorman, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Wetherby and Tamar and sister Mary Ann. Grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and entered the Air Corps in 1943. Graduated from USC with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Worked for AiResearch (now Honeywell) in Phoenix for 35 years. Avid bridge player and golfer. Volunteer work included the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Arizona, Arizona State Hospital, President and coach of Kiva-Kaibab Little League, precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party, Shepherd of the Hills Congregational Church Men's Group, Mobile Meals and ICM. Enjoyed watching all sports and was an ASU Football season ticket holder for years. A long-time San Francisco Giants fan, Bob always said "I don't want to live forever, I just want to see the Giants take it all!" figuring if he got his wish the always-choking Giants would grant him a very long life. When they finally won the pennant this year, his friends and family didn't know whether to congratulate him or offer condolences. A man of many passions besides sports, Bob loved history, politics, astronomy, classical music, Jeopardy, poetry, and especially discussing religion. He always looked forward to the beach house rental in Santa Cruz, CA every summer where he taught the grandchildren golf and tennis. He had many letters to the editor printed in the newspapers and magazines, never shy in expressing his opinions on national and world events. Bob's sense of humor and view of the world will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorials may be made to NAMI-AZ, 5025 E. Washington St., Ste 112, Phoenix, AZ 85034 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Service is Friday, March 11th, at 11 am, Shepherd of the Hills Congregational Church, 5525 E. Lafayette Blvd, Phoenix.

Bob, I will never forget that twinkle in your eyes. Your daughter Gail has been the best friend for the last 34 years, that I could ever imagine having. You and Helen raised a great family, and instilled great character of kindness and great wonder of knowledge into that family. Those you have left behind will miss you greatly. Love, Lisa Mitchell, Pomona, Ca.

Bob was a great man~ smart, funny & witty, caring and always a smile on his face. The Boorman's were a part of my life from the time I was 7 years old when we moved to Arizona. Sleep overs, cook outs, pool parties, Brownies... always fun times. My folks, Jane & Harry Baker, always thought so much of Bob, as did my father in law, Ken Bradford.
Dan and I will miss Bob's humor and love. Our love and prayers to you, Helen, Gail and Family, Gary, David and Family.
God Bless you all-
Dan and Kathy Bradford and Family

I'll never forget Bob's great smile and laughter! He was always my favorite family father friend! A memory that Helen reminded me of and one I'll never forget is when Garry & brother Jim put me on a moped for the first time and I ran into their brick wall before I could get started! I couldn't start my new job the next day because of a sprained ankle.
All my love to Helen, Gail and Garry,
Judith A. Merritt
