Robert Hunt Obituary

Robert C. Hunt Robert C. Hunt of Paradise Valley, Arizona passed away on Saturday night, October 22, 2005. Bob, or RC as he was known to many, was Chairman of Hunt Construction Group, Inc. and oversaw the corporate affairs of the company from Hunt's corporate office in Scottsdale, Arizona. Robert C. Hunt was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 24, 1923 to Paul and Myrtle Hunt. Bob's sister, Betty Hunt Alexander, a resident of Selma, Alabama, passed away earlier this year. Bob grew up in Cleveland, graduated with an Engineering Degree from Case University Institute of Technology with graduate work at MIT. He served in the United States Army as an Engineer in Patton's Third Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. In July of 1944, Bob married LaVern Raines, which began an incredible 59-year love affair until Bob and LaVern made their first home in began an incredible 59-year love affair until LaVern's death in March 2003. Bob and LaVern made their first home in Indianapolis, Indiana where they began raising their son, "young" Bob. In July of 1947, beginning as a field engineer, Bob began his 58 yearlong career working for his Father's company, then known as Huber, Hunt & Nichols, Inc. During the early 1950's, Bob, along with his Father Paul, grew the company from its local plant conversion work, changing Indianapolis manufacturing plants from war production to civilian production with clients such as General Motors, Fisher Body, Chrysler and Ford. As Paul's health began to decline he turned over control of the company to Bob. Realizing that the company's resources could not continue to be dedicated to simply one market, Bob began a period of planned diversification to grow the business and, as a result, office buildings, hospitals, schools, stadiums, arenas, hotels, research facilities and the like became standard components of the corporation's workload. As the company acquired projects outside of the Indiana area, Bob - as pilot and LaVern - as co-pilot flew across the country in their first airplane to visit the projects being built by the company, personally meeting all the Hunt employees and clients. Bob's most recent project was the Arizona Cardinal's Stadium being built in Glendale, Arizona. His deep personal commitment to the new stadium started with the relocation of the NFL franchise to Arizona, continued through the prolonged approval process and extended into construction. Bob was onsite weekly meeting with staff, subcontractors, owners and architects and took great pride in his involvement in what he called "his" project. Robert C. Hunt served on the Board of Directors of Bank One, Indianapolis; Trustee of Indiana Central University; Board of Trustees, Citizens Gas & Coke Utility of Indianapolis; former President of Indianapolis Athletic Club and the 500 Festival Committee; Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; National Society of Professional Engineers; National Association of General Contractors; Trustee and Member of First Baptist Church, Indianapolis; Lay Advisory Board Member of St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis; Member of Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee; Member; Chairman, Phoenix & Valley of The Sun Convention & Visitors Bureau; Member Greater Phoenix Leadership; Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl Parade; Life Director, Chairman of the Board, Member of the Executive Committee and Consultant to the Board of the Fiesta Bowl, Tempe, Arizona. In 2003, after LaVern's passing, Bob married Bette Vaughan, a high school friend, who had recently become widowed herself. Bob is survived by his son Robert G. Hunt, his wife Dr. Diana S. Hunt and their two children, Kaitlyn and Cameron. A visitation will be open to all friends on Wednesday, October 26th between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, Arizona. Services will be held on Thursday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the Scottsdale Bible Church, 7601 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Arizona. A Gathering of Friends and Family will follow at Paradise Valley Country Club, 7101 N. Tatum Blvd., Paradise Valley, Arizona

Mr. Hunt...so much to say, but as you can attest to be my first time, I am speechless.

You will be missed, but as we have done to date, we will carry on and make you proud!! This project is missing two very important people that work very hard for it - Mrs. Hunt and now you. Please give Mrs. Hunt a hug from the Cardinal project team and know that you have affected us all in great ways.

We a love you! Sarah
