Bob Nagle was the first truly original thinker maybe the first truly original person in my life. As a student in his classroom, I learned to ask questions I would never have thought to ask, and to use the answers to see the world in ways I otherwise never could have. He welcomed me, and many others, into a perpetual salon he and Jean conducted in their home for their students, for friends, for acquaintances, for anyone curious enough and interested enough to take part, at all hours of the day and night probably to the consternation of neighbors but to the great delight of those of us fortunate enough to participate. I lost track of Bob years ago, but I've never forgotten him, and never will.

My sympathies to Bob's family. Bob was a great philosophy teacher at NWMSU. I had him for Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, and Phenomenology. I have been a public school superintendent for over twenty years which can be a pragmatic and literal task. Bob taught me to think laterally, and apply reflection on perspectives other than just my own. This has helped me throughout my career and I attribute a lot of this to Bob. I also teach philosophy through a community college and I try to apply a Socratic method, mostly learned from a small group of teachers with Bob being in that small group. I am appreciative for everything I learned from him.
