Robert Wadsworth Obituary

Wadsworth, Robert H.
77 of Paradise Valley, passed away on September 12, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated with honors from Princeton University where he served as Stage Manager for The Triangle Club. Following his college graduation, he began his career in public accounting at Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery where he encountered a coworker, Nina Jansson. Ten weeks after they met Bob traded in his beloved Thistle racing dinghy for an engagement ring, thus embarking upon their 55 year journey. They married shortly before he began his military service in West Germany with the 28th Field Artillery, during which he achieved the rank of Captain. As a result of their experience in Europe, he and Nina developed a love of travel and spent their lives exploring more than 70 countries. Upon his return stateside, Bob earned an MBA from Pace University and began a career in finance specializing in investment company operation and management. After becoming an expert in the arcane area of the '40 Act, he founded The Wadsworth Group in 1980, which provided key services to the mutual fund industry with offices throughout the United States. He relocated the headquarters to Phoenix in 1992 and continued his lifelong commitment to community service by volunteering on the Board of the Phoenix Boys Choir as well as numerous other civic, charitable and business organizations.Bob had a wide and varied range of interests. At any given time (in the era before the internet) he had well over a dozen magazine subscriptions running the gamut from PC Magazine to Fine Homebuilding to Private Varnish (the magazine of the Association of Private Railroad Car Owners, a longstanding dream of his which, sadly, remained unfulfilled). His innumerable pursuits ranged from bricklaying to theology to public policy to beekeeping. His true passions included Jazz (particularly Charlie Parker) as well as the music of Cole Porter and Buddy Holly and, of course, his lifelong love of sailing. He is survived by his wife Nina J. Wadsworth, daughter Susan H. Wadsworth, son James J. Wadsworth, grandson Connor Nixon, and sister Julia W. Christian. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 22nd at 2:00 pm at St. Barnabas on the Desert. His remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Bob's family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.

I am at a loss for words. I will miss my friend. Bob was truly one of a kind. I have never met anyone like him, and my life is better because he was in it. He had a mind like no other. My thoughts and prayers are with Nina and family. May your memories carry you through this challenging time. God bless.
