Sat Jiwan Singh Khalsa

Sat Khalsa Obituary

Sat Jiwan Singh Khalsa, born July 4th, 1948, passed from this life on February 11th, 2006. A faithful Gursikh, devoted student of Yogi Bhajan, long-time Kundalini Yoga teacher, owner of Nanak's Conscious Construction for over 30 years, loving husband and father, and a remarkable human being, Sat Jiwan Singh lived with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) with the utmost courage and dignity. He often quoted Yogi Bhajan - "Keep up and you'll be kept "up!" He did keep up, and was kept up by his friends, neighbors, yoga students, sadh sangat, caregivers and family. It would take this whole page to name and thank everyone who supported our family with their time, energy, donations and love. To each of you please know we are infinitely grateful. May you receive ten-fold all you have given. Sat Jiwan Singh's family members include Sat Jiwan Kaur, wife of 35 years; son and daughter-in-law Sat Bir Singh and Nirinjan Kaur and their three dear children Har Simran Singh, Devta Kaur and Sat Kartar Kaur; daughters Sarv Varta Kaur (Phranq) and Hari Jot Kaur (Jonathan); sisters Barbara Millis (husband Ralph and daughter Jeanne Lee) and Betsy Leonard (husband Dale); beloved step-father B. W. Koeppel; deceased mother Jessie Lee Koeppel; brother-in-law Eddie Gwaltney (wife Toni and children Marisa [Davy] and Xan); sister-in-law Carol Redding; maternal father and mother-in-law Roy and Betty Gwaltney; deceased brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Vicki and nieces Ashley and Jennifer Gwaltney; and his business partner of 15 years Sat Sansar Singh Best (wife Sat Sansar Kaur and children Meher Singh and Guruka Singh). An inspiration to us all, we now send him on his way with "Akal (undying soul)", and hold our memories of him ever in our hearts. I met Sat Jiwan Singh by chance at a coffee shop. I dabble in black and white photography and had a photography book that he inquired about. We discussed art, religion, society and what it has come to.

At the time I was taking a 2 month "sabbatical" from work. He offered me a job to check on sprinkler systems at different locations including 1 in Sedona.

While in Sedona I think I took my best pictures--I thank Sat Jiwan Singh for that.

He called me out of the blue one day just to see that all was well.

Since that meeting, I have been at my current job that has provided me with all that I could ask for.

I don't know if it was some kind of "divine intervention" that I met this man--but he did show me there is still some humanity and kindness in this world--again I thank him for that.

My thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of this gentelman.
