Scott Kemp Obituary

Scott Paschall Kemp of Mesa, AZ passed away on Saturday afternoon
July 19th, 2008 at the age of 63. Scott was born in St. Joseph Missouri on April 3, 1945. The only child of Joe and Doris Kemp, Scott moved to San Diego when he was a young boy. There he attended Sweetwater High School and San Diego State University. In May of 1967 his life would change forever when his mother introduced him to a beautiful young cashier at Leader department store. Betty Jane Barber and he were married on March 30th, 1968. Scott served in the United States Air Force from December 1967 to March 1973 serving as an F-4 Pilot in the Vietnam War. While serving he earned the National Distinguished Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award Ribbon. Scott and Betty began attending Central Christian Church of Mesa, AZ in 1974 where Scott served as an elder and teacher. He did not just attend Central Christian, he served with a steadfast desire to see the Kingdom of God expanded. Scott was an exemplary father to his six daughters who were known around the church as "the Kemp girls". The tremendous pride he had in his family was well founded, his girls have grown to be fine women and have shown themselves to be excellent wives and mothers. His family is a testament to the kind of man he was. The character, integrity, and honor he displayed in his life were only overshadowed by his tremendous faith in Christ. He truly lived his faith and is without a doubt experiencing the rewards of a well lived Christian life. He is survived by his wife Betty Kemp; children Steve and Lori Hutchins, Matt and Kirsten Lunsford, Sean and Shelley Smith, Jon and Stephanie Howard, Mike and Davina Baird, Cade and Candice Fassett; fourteen grandchildren, Gregory, Trevor, Amanda, Ella, Olivia, Allison, Kate, Emily, Claire, Anna, Sam, Abby, Kenny, and Scott who is expected in September. Service will be held at Central Christian Church of the East Valley, Mesa Campus at 933 N. Lindsay Rd. on Wednesday July 23rd, 2008 10AM. Visitation will be open to all friends at Hansen Mortuary 108 N. 56th St., Mesa on Tuesday night 6 – 8:00pm.
In honor of Scott contributions can be made to Central Christian Church of the East Valley.

We did not know your family, but our daughter-in-law, Kim Johnson requested prayer for you when she received a call from her good friend, Stephanie. As part of God's family, we have a special bond, and we sympathize with your family at the passing of your husband, dad and grandpa, but are rejoicing that Scott is at home with his Heavenly Father. As Christians we can look forward to God's family reunion, and what a wonderful day that will be!

The official definition of integrity in the dictionary says "see Scott Kemp".
Scott had a unique way of combining personal high standards with acceptance of the weaknesses in all of us, and he reflected this with such an easygoing and self-effacing sense of humor. We will miss him terribly, but his memory and impact on our lives will always be a part of us.

Scott was a great man who leaves an incredible legacy. It has been a privilege to know him. My prayers are with the Kemp family. He will be greatly missed, but we are all assured of his whereabouts. He is with the King!

We will remember Scott Kemp as
truly a "man after God's own heart"
He was our spiritual mentor in our Thursday night Bible study. When we moved to AZ from MI, he was so kind, inviting, and answered all of our questions about CCEV church and Bible questions. Scott knew the Bible inside and out and when we asked him a question about a topic, he would go to his Bible and find where the topic was addressed.
Since he joined the church until his death or victory with our Lord, Scott was continually faithful in ministering even to handicapped people, known as HopeKeepers at CCEV church. Our sympathies go out to Betty, and her daughters, their husbands, and grandchildren, that we were so priviledged to meet tonight at the funeral home.
We keeping Betty and the family in daily prayers.
Heavenly, Abba Father: We lift up Betty, her children and grand-children before you. Anoint them with blessings, and indeed show them Your Great Faithfulness and love. Thank you Lord for giving us the hope you do in Jeremiah 31:13
"I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow". In Jesus name we pray this AMEN

Our loss is heaven's gain. What a man and what a legacy he has left through his joyful obedience. Kemp family... even though we've not spoken in years, you continue to hold a special place in our hearts, and now, more than ever, we will lift you before the throne, praying for comfort from this day forward. Not only is Scott one of those "once in a lifetime" kind of guys, but it is true of your entire family as well. Thanks for the blessing you all are to the world. I look forward to seeing Scott and you all again!!

I had the privilege of working with Scott for the full week prior to his death. We had several conversations about our children and he was truly proud of all his family. We laughed a lot and I know Scott was a happy man.

Really sorry to hear this news. I only knew Scott as a business acquaintance but it was a blessing to have a Christian as a colleague.
I lost my Dad when he was 61 and I can share the loss the children feel.

Scott will truly be missed. He always made you feel at home at his house. He always joked at how good of a video I shot of Jon and Steph's wedding. A truly great man.

I worked with Scott over the course of 5 years. He was a mentor to me and I considered him a friend! What warmth and love he showed to everyone around him. I just cannot believe he is gone....My love and prayers go to his wife, Betty and all of his children. I know I don't have to tell you that your husband and dad was thought highly of and loved very much by many. Hugs and Kisses, Ashley

Man, I just saw him this past week at church as well as most of his family. My heart hurt when I heard of his passing. Everytime I saw him, his face just glowed from his love of God. I will pray for the loved ones left behind.
