Sherry Turner Obituary

Sherry Roberta Turner, was born September 26, 1929 and passed away on May 26, 2006. Although she had no children of her own, in her thirty-five years of teaching elementary school she had hundreds of children. She read to them all and imparted a wonderful, magical spark to the stories. With her always ready humor and vibrant, evocative voice she was a combination of Mary Poppins and Nanny McPhee. She brought the children on an adventure into the story. They remembered her. Years later, on many occasions, she would be suddenly hugged by a total stranger who was one of her "children" in adult form. Sherry is survived by her sisters Kathleen Landrum (Larry), and Robin Best (Randy), nephews Tyler Best and Britton Best and great-nieces Beverly Ward and Victoria Ward. Also, she is survived by her dear and long time friends, Phoebe and Duvall Cooper. She was a "pioneer" member of Central United Methodist Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Beta Xi, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of a very congenial bridge group. She was a regular contributor to every veteran's, police, children's or animal charity that crossed her path, also the St. Mary's Food Bank. Sherry was a positive force in the lives of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10th, at Central United Methodist Church, 1875 N. Central Avenue, at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Food Bank 2831N. 31st Ave. Phx, 85009. Arrangements Hansen Mortuary
