In May of 1997, my first week at Intel, Joe Crunk introduced me to Terry and we had an instant kinship. There was never a time that he didn't say hi and speak my name when he saw me in the hall, the cafe, a meeting room, etc. We shared time over coffee on many occasions at C10 and he was genuinely interested in people and was always available to talk to. When you did talk with Terry you came away with a new "sense of self". He had the ability to make you see yourself, work, problems and the world in a different light. Terry seemed to know if you had a problem and always took the time to find out, listen and offer insight if wanted. He was a friend for the past 7+ years and his presence in my life will be a blessing I shall forever cherish and his passing leaves a void words cannot express. The brief chat we had a week or so before his passing will now be a cherished and indelible memory I could never forget.

I have lost a friend, Intel has lost an invaluable presence and resource, the world has lost a caring, concerned, gentle yet gregarious soul and heaven has gained a shining star.

May his family find comfort in knowing that there are many lives that Terry touched and they are all better for having known him.

Rest in Peace

Florence and family – you are all in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

I will miss Terry terribly, he was truly a very special and unique friend who has left a remarkable and indelible legacy with me and so many others. His passion, energy and vibrant pursuit of life was wonderfully infectious, I found myself on so many occasions in awe of the excitement he put in, and got out of everything he touched and engaged in. He had an insatiable desire to learn, discover and experience all aspects of what life had to offer, and he always gave everything he had and frankly then some. I loved the bounce in his step, the smile he would carry no matter where or what the circumstances, and his profound and deep care and concern for others and for doing what’s right. He was an icon, beacon of inspiration, role model and friend to all, to me. His passing leaves a tremendous hole in many of our lives – but his legacy for living his life out loud, for making every moment count, for passionately wanting to make life better, will live on within those who new him, and most certainly within ME.

The world is poorer today than it was a week ago. Those of us in this book will have that sense of loss and that sense of thankfulness that we were privilaged to know and work with Terry. But part of the loss I feel is for the people who's lives were positively impacted by Terry without ever knowing him. They will unware of the loss that they too suffer.

I always found Terry focused on "doing the right thing." His actions in the environmental, health and safety area were not just motivated by making Intel and the industry more successful (although it did make everyone more efficient and successful), instead his actions were motivated by making the world better. For example, Terry would encourage us to figure out how to never create a waste stream because then we wouldn't have to figure out how to handle and treat it. What was the better use of our time and energies? He didn't reserve his efforts to a targeted company, set of employees or a given country. He was generous with contributing his time and expertise to all and was really a citizen of the world. It was an honor and pleasure to know and work with Terry. By heartfelt sympathies for his family and friends.

Terry stopped by my office in Santa Clara, CA just a day or two before he suffered his cardiac arrest. As usual, he was upbeat and enthusiastic about our upcoming Intel science competition. He was a faithful supporter of our education activities and eager to help out when and where he could. He had invited us all to his house in May for the Intel ISEF which will be in Phoenix. We will think of him then -- and raise a glass to his memory!
