Theodore Joseph "Ted" D'Argis

Theodore D'Argis Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Joseph D'Argis, 85 of Mesa, AZ died on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Brighton Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility, Scottsdale, AZ where he was a resident for 4 months. He and his wife, Barbara (Arcand (Kee)) who survives him previously lived in Mesa, AZ for 24 years. Ted was born on April 17, 1923 in Detroit, MI to Joseph A. and Lillian (Bazant) D'Argis. He attended Northern High School in Detroit prior to enlisting in the Army, where he served as a medical corpsman during WWII. He was a member of the 116th Infantry 29th Division in the Normandy, N. France, Germany & Central European theatres. He received several military honors in addition to being a two time Purple Heart recipient. Following the war Ted returned to Detroit where he worked as a DSR bus driver then moving to the Water Department, later in the Building & Safety Engineering Department as an inspector from which he retired. Ted and Barb celebrated their 33rd anniversary on June 23, 2007. After retirement Ted and Barb enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights of the states visiting old friends and family. They finally settled down in Mesa, where they could be close to family and enjoy the warm weather. Ted was an avid stamp & coin collector. And a Scrabble & cross word enthusiast. He loved reading and researching historical events; and loved tinkering with tools and projects, a genuine "gadget guy". In his early years he had a dark room in his home allowing him to indulge in his passion for photography. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers: Deacon Leo D'Argis of Flat Rock, MI, and Harvey D'Argis of Plymouth, MI; two sisters: Lorraine (D'Argis) Audette of FL, and Sharon D'Argis of MI; five sons: William D'Argis of HI; Gerald D'Argis of HI; Henry "Butch" Arcand, Jr. of MI; James Arcand of MI; Joe & Denise Arcand of MI; seven daughters: Karen (D'Argis) Travis of CO; Eileen Stowe of MI; Dorothy & George Hearn of AZ; Annette & Chris Pantaleo of AZ; Patty & David Finney of AZ; Theresa & Roger Finney of AZ; and Mary & Andy Trevizo of AZ; he is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. A memorial service to honor the life of Ted with military honors from the local VFW will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 322 N. Horne St., Mesa, AZ 85203 on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 5 pm.
